  • Yeah, I'm not believing anything Chick says if he trashes on Peanut butter.

Vital knowledge: I try not to buy peanut butter while living on my own because I end up eating it all really fast. Damn it's siren's song.

    Also the Angel is black.

Though, the tract is called "Wassup?"

This has gotta be some hilariously awkward attempt at staying "hip".

Looking at that map from 1872 again...apparently even back then Town Street was discontinuous. Which I guess makes sense, they probably didn't more than a couple bridges across the Scioto River.

Also I notice that Cleveland Avenue became "Harbor Road" when it left the city. Funny, nowadays the entire length is named Cleveland Avenue.

This was definitely a potential unfortunate implication I picked up on...

It's like he watches Boondocks, but also channeled himself form the future to draw Uncle Ruckus in the original as well.

  • Ah, yes, a comic involving black people. Surely, such a thing requires such elements as social disharmony and chicken legs (the favored food of the African-American race), and a lack of intelligence. I'm so glad that you're treating my people with such respect, Chick.

(wow, that was passive-aggressive. And uncomfortable)

The reason the characters in that updated comic are all black and the art is different is because the artist himself is a black evangelist.  He's also (as far as I know) the only other artist Jack Chick will allow to work on said tracts.  I can't remember the artist's name, but as you can see his art is impeccable, and the entire reason he draws these tracts along with Chick is to better evangelize to black audiences.

I wasn't getting a "racist" vibe from it, but that certainly explains some things.

Would have been nice to leave at least one white guy in, or something....huh...or not. Maybe I should be happy that chick Tracts are going to be excluding my race (sorry black heapers...)

Considering Jack's work and when and where he started (he's a WWII vet, for instance,) he's relatively a progressive individual. His biggest concern is spreading gospel and information about salvation, much like Billy Graham. It can be safely said that he doesn't have a racist bone in his body. Now being anti-Catholicism, that he is for sure.

pretty understandable, though. Chick's bad about a lot of things, but especially race I think.

    Fred Carter (artist)

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Fred Carter

(born June 22, 1938) is an artist best known for his work for Jack Chick's tracts since 1972. Like his employer, he is very reclusive and little is known about his personal life. He is an African-American, and Chick has described him as being a pastor.

Carter uses richly detailed shading in his art. He worked anonymously for Chick Publications, until Chick acknowledged Carter's work in a 1980 issue of his newsletter Battle Cry. The two collaborated on Chick's 2001 film The Light of the World, presenting Bible stories through oil paintingsby Carter.

Carter is currently reworking numerous tracts, drawn originally by both himself and Chick alike, for African-American audiences. Reworked tracts appear alongside Chick's new work.

An interview with Carter appears in Kurt Kuersteiner's 2008 documentary God's Cartoonist: The Comic Crusade of Jack Chick.

Yeah, Oat's fundraiser got to $190,000 already and it's got a week left.

Apparently the attorney FJ hired is suing Oat and the non-profit organizations he set the fundraiser up for though, apparently for "instigating malicious attacks" against him or something as a result.

    Can you say "frivolous"?
  • From Oat himself:
    Dear Charles Carreon,

    You're making things worse.

This dispute was originally between myself and FunnyJunk. After the fundraiser was a success, I figured you and FunnyJunk would stop there. This would have been an ideal exit for you. It wouldn't have been a particularly graceful exit, but an exit nonetheless.

So when did this transform from Oatmeal VS FunnyJunk to Carreon VS the internet? I'm going to take a wild shot in the dark here and guess that it's when you announced to a journalist at MSNBC that you were trying to shut down a charity fundraiser which would benefit cancer victims and endangered wildlife. THAT was the moment when the tide of public opinion focused on you instead of FunnyJunk. I never encouraged anyone to attack, harass, or otherwise contact you. In fact in myoriginal letter I blurred out your contact information and I linked to your Wikipedia page instead of your website. If I've directed energy anywhere it's been to the fundraiser page.

And to anyone else who is reading this: it goes without saying, but stop harassing Carreon. Be lawful and civil in your interactions with him.

Yeah, and they tried to sue The Oatmeal. For real this time.

Oat basically told them to shove it though, which got their attorney all butthurt, so here we are.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Am I the only one who doesn't like the expression "butthurt"?
  • Not really. I'm not that fond of the phrase myself.

He said that he never contacted police about the treats but wished he had.

This is why proofreading is important in journalism. :P

Can someone explain the whole Funnyjunk/Oatmeal thing?

^^^ It's overused and vaguely homophobic. This is why you use synonyms like "asspained", "bumbattered", "analdevestated", "fannyflusted" and "anusanguished".
  • The parts of True Blood that are "one's a walking mid-life crisis, one's a guy trying not to think with his dick, They're Cops" are among my favorites.

Dunno about it being homophobic -- first time I ever heard the term was in the military and I think it's in regards to that penicillin horse needle they jab into your ass when you arrive at boot camp, and leaves a painful wad in your rear end for a few days (right in time for low crawling training)
  • ^ I don't really think that's the reference in most people's minds, though.

    I know that.

I just can't take this seriously. A is mad because someone is reposting his comics elsewhere and making money off of them, okay, understandable. B threatens to sue A out of nowhere, not understandable.

A retaliates by setting up a cancer fund.

B sues A because cancer fund.

I AM APPARENTLY EXPECTED TO TAKE THIS VERY VERY SERIOUS.
