Yes and no, the Irish Travellers are different from the Romani and the two terms are not interchangeable. New Age Travellers are completely different, obviously. I've not sure whether the use of "traveller" as a general term is strictly PC (even if technically accurate) but I have certainly heard it used that way.
Not all travelling people object to the term "gypsy", incidentally, and some have embraced it. It's just one of those words that you should be careful with because it has been used as a slur and is perceived as such by some.
