A mean dog, huh? I don't like mean dogs either. I would've barked at her. My bark makes bad things go away.

I'm reading an article now that says the US is going to end because of hidden references to 9/11 in the media, or something like that...I can't figure out what it's saying!

I dug further and it's your usual "REPENT FOR THE END IS NEAR" claptrap. I'm almost to the part where they tell you to buy gold and guns, it looks like. :P

I worry that spending money on myself is bad, or something

Even though having disposable pocket money is part of why I took my current job

And I was right...exhortations to buy gold and move to the Redoubt (or leave the country entirely) are front and center. If God was going to smite us, do you really thing He'd stop with the US?

These articles are really making me wonder if these people build orgone blasters, and use them in all seriousness.
  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
Tangentially related: My local new age store had a glass case exhibit recently about orgonite. It reminded me of this sort of thing.

The people there are pretty nice, all things considered, but conspiracy theory stuff always kinda makes me feel iffy nonetheless.

You know what I find weird? Digital cameras still have 4:3 aspect ratios.

4:3 isn't even a traditional photography aspect ratio--35 mm film is 3:2. The only reason digital cameras are 4:3 is that they matched the most common aspect ratio for computer displays when they first came on the market.

But now almost all computer displays are 16:9, but cameras are still 4:3. It even leads to some silliness with mobile phones because many of them have 16:9 screens but 4:3 cameras...

I admit: a lot of my resentment over "LOL BITCOIN" each and every time it comes up is from a feeling that my interests are too narrow

It seems like everyone else here knows more about things than I do, while I prefer to focus on my own narrow interests...which Bitcoin doesn't quite figure into...

So yes, it is mildly amusing at best
  • i must amend this by saying that i am not amused by bitcoin at all

so basically what i'm saying is that every time i see "HA HA BITCOIN" i just kinda roll my eyes

I admit, I get some level of schadenfreude from it

Because the kind of people who swear by Bitcoin are all like "Bitcoin's great because it has no government oversight or regulation!" and then when they inevitably get scammed out of their money they fail to make the connection between the two

Not to mention that a lot of Bitcoin folks are just kinda silly; they're like fanboys but for a currency

@Anonus: You're being too hard on yourself again. Nobody's going "haha, look at that loser who doesn't like to laugh at bitcoin!" or anything
  • My best friend got into Bitcoin before it got big and turned into a punchline

I remember him mentioning that he made some good money off of it, though I can't say I know if he's still mining it

he's up to his teeth in Dogecoin though :P

dogecoin is funny because they tried to make a parody of bitcoin but it ended up basically being the same as bitcoin, heists and all
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
Things for which the successful parodies are indistinguishable from the original:

    bitcoin
    shoegazing

I'm sure there are more I'm not aware of.

I love Mr. Orwell, but I feel that essay seems outdated.

It mostly reminds me of complaints about videogames, actually.

But I like it precisely because of the outdatedness, really.
