Well, there are quite a few ways you can get that signature wobble bass. The most common way is to simply modulate the cutoff of a low pass filter on a few detuned square waves. For those more digital, crunchy midrange-y modern sounds generally some sort of FM synthesis is used, with the LFO assigned to the frequency modulation of a low sine wave by a triangle wave pitched up an octave or two with additional harmonics.
