really need to watch Utena again, I don't think I was old enough the first time
  • I have been catching up with Actually I Am.
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
You're convincing me that I need to rewatch Utena at some point.
  • if I did a heapwatch of Kamichu! would anyone be interested

    assuming I even could
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
I'm up for almost anything, honestly.

    Munch munch, chomp chomp...
Karen Senki is not good, just from the one episode I saw. 60% needlessly flashy gun shooting, 40% any sort of meaningful characterization. Forgettable dialogue too.

Found myself wanting to watch RWBY more than it.
  • truly a damning indictment
  • I was thinking of watching that because in the thumbnails on hulu there was a lady with cool glasses

I don't know who you are referring to, but Karen herself is pretty forgettable (if she's who you mean even if I'm guessing not). Though granted, the episodes are barely 10 or 11 minutes long, so it wouldn't be too much of a waste of time.

And, yes. I don't mean to damn RWBY with faint praise as that's just kind of mean, though I did find myself appreciating it much more.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Someone who I suppose is Karen wears a really horrible cheongsam.

I'm sure you all know how I feel about bad cheongsams.

    That would be Karen, yes.

Also, Chivalry of a Failed Knight doesn't sound very good, but also entertaining. Think I'm gonna watch it at some point.
  • so, out of boredom I decided to have Psycho-Pass a second chance

    Glad I did so far
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
    don't bother with psycho-pass 2 though

    the movie's also good
  • I think I have Karen Senki on my to-watch list.

Moving my last post in the "Confess your sins" thread to here upon Cerise's request:

If it turns out that New Madoka isn't good, you can just declare Death of the Author and just stick to the original.

This, of course, is assuming they'll even do anything new, which isn't guaranteed at this point.

I believe that Urobuchi stated that they left the ending open because he wanted to do something with it.
Nothing's been announced yet, so who knows what will happen and when?

I do hope they do something else, though.

Agreed, I have a warm place in my heart for Madoka. (In fact, Kyouko's soul gem hands from my 3DS)

    FM, you have good taste.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Homura and Sayaka are my favourites, to be quite honest. Kyouko's a good character, but Sayaka's descent into madness and Homura's Faust-ness hit a lot closer to home for me.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    i feel similarly
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
That scene on the train. Wow. Bit on the nose but that is fucking brutal. Same goes for, like, all of episode ten.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
The tenth episode also shows someone falling in love in a really nifty, understated way.
  • I have a hard time taking Madoka (the show not the character, haha), seriously, but I get the impression that this is a Madoka friendly site and I respect that.

So anywho, I am pleasantly surprised by how entertaining One Punch Man is. It sort of reminds me of Tentai Senshi Sunred, though so far it has somehow managed to both parody bits of shonen fighter shows and be a legit one itself.
  • I maintain that Homura did nothing wrong (within the show, not the movie which I haven't yet seen) and that the writers wronged her.
  • Splat Charger Specialist
Homura is the best. Even after the movie, I am a Homura Apologist.
  • the writers wronged her.

    that's kinda like

like, what happened to her isnt good, but it is in keeping with the nature of what is happening
  • that sort of sentiment is why i actively go out of my way to avoid becoming attatched to characters
  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...
I've been attached to characters but... not like that. It goes a little beyond simple attachment, or at least my own experiences with it.

I guess I'll leave it at that.

fact: gen urobuchi(the writer) says that the ending of rebellion is a happy ending for homura

I appreciate having a close attachment to characters, ones on whom I can "hang my heart" when I visit the story in which they reside, and through whose eyes I can see and through whose heart I can feel said story.

This sort of "betrayal" (so to speak) isn't the first time it's happened, and in some ways I think that feeling of resentment against the story itself just reinforces my attachment to the character.  I've felt similarly about some things in Evangelion, and even one thing in Voltron the Third Dimension, where the one character who disagreed with what was going on and agreed with me and fought back -- even if in vain -- pretty much instantly became my favorite character.

TL;DR it makes the story more meaningful to me even if in a weird and roundabout way

Not something I'm actually unfamiliar with, even personally.
  • kill living beings
in this episode, dandy goes to a planet directed by yasuhiro nakura, is confronted by philosophical elder things, still wants to go to hooters

    kill living beings
here is part of wikipedia's description of the final episode

The series ends where it began (with Dandy and QT heading to BooBies, where they will meet Meow for the first time), except Dandy's experiences from his multiverse-hopping adventures have made him grow as a person and wonder if he is the same as he was before.

what they mean: he says he likes calves instead of asses
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I have started Hunter x Hunter and the first episode kind of rocked. It is indeed very much like the opening of a saga or a heroic myth, but rather than cliché it's just very in keeping with the tone, which is... unique.

I could blog about the stuff I'm watching. Or write some reviews. Or something. There are options. I will certainly talk about it here.

Also, do we have a regular TV thread? I can blather about Gilmore Girls and how I love Paris and Lane and Jess despite their often terrible decisions.

I don't think we have one, actually. I'll go make one and ask you a question about your post in it.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Some entirely necessary quips about where I am in Hunter x Hunter now:
    - Have a heart, Jones. It wouldn't kill you. (Were it in the right place.)
    - "Follow the butterflies" is now officially the more dangerous option...
    - ...unless you're with Kurapika.
