Super Bowl XLIX

I doubt anyone here really cares about it except Lee because he likes football and me because I pick up a lot of football stuff via osmosis by Mother, but still

  • Exlix sounds like a porn site
  • I'm sure the rest of us (or those of us living in America, anyway) will still watch it, if only to see the commercials.

the big game (*swills beer, eats five dorito*)

    so... Patriots or Seahawks, HH?

idk anything about football, but i might watch out of curiosity, providing my parents' TV is free this evening

I am told I am supposed to hate the Patriots.

I don't know WHY. It's a team of big guys with head injuries fighting another team of big guys with head injuries, and I don't see how one can be more evil than the other. Most of them don't even come from the place they're representing, it's all mercenaries.

I live in Seattle. I don't really care about football. I am happy if we win, because of civic pride. This year, however, there's more at stake. If we win, an art museum in New England (I forget which one) will lend us a piece of art representing New England. If we lose, SAM will have to lend that museum one of my favourite pieces of art there: Puget Sound on the Pacific Coast by Bierstadt

I mean, I get why you'd enjoy sports.

I just don't get why teams are hateable

Well duh, they created an economy based on war and killed The Boss for money. I'd say that's plenty of reason to hate them.

Mm... is it anything to do with Spygate?  Just a guess.

That's the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo. I was talking about the Patriots as in the football team.
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
aha the sports pile does not stop from getting higher
  • My mother and sister absolutely love it, my mother was literally almost in tears when she almost couldn't watch it once. I did not inherit these genes.

    That settles it.

    "Mom: I hate Seattle"
"Me: Why do you hate Seattle?"
    "Mom: Cause they suck."
    "Me: What's in Seattle"
    "Mom:The Seattle Seahawks."

    This.

What's the point of attachment when you're merely told that this is something associated with your city or town or region?  The players aren't even necessarily from it, and the whole occasion is run like a celebrity novelty show anyway, complete with rules-lawyering up the wazoo.

That said, "American" (i.e. gridiron) football is also boring to watch.  It's horribly complicated for anyone who doesn't already know how it works.

Channel 4 are playing up the Patriots' alleged infamy for devious tactics and unsporting plays

i guess i should hope for a Seahawks victory, if for no other reason than it'd be kind of ironic for a Brit to support the Patriots
  • i thought just a few years ago everyone was looking up to the patriots

then again a few years ago i was living in new england
  • yeah I'm like late to the party here but did anybody see Jabberjaw at the halftime show
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
was jabberjaw the one on the left or the one on the right?
  • The one on the left

The other was Dynomutt dressed up as Jabberjaw

You know Perry approached the antinatalist shark but he said no amount of cheering fans could compensate for the suffering the performance would inflict upon him

no wonder I quit watching FIM :P

    yeah

    uh

is that normal in a football game?

because like that wasn't just a foul, that was outright brawling

My dad dislikes the Pats greatly, being a Steelers fan

he was going for the Seahawks, and while my life isn't particularly affected either way I'm still a bit disappointed because 1) the game was theirs to win and 2) most acquaintances of mine are not Patriots fans
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    good game though

i feel kind of sorry for the Seahawks, they must be kicking themselves now
  • well they won last year against a team that inexplicably fell apart (and was representing my home city) so...
  • i hate the trophy presentation fanfare

they make it sound like the cure for cancer is being introduced

Well, we lost. I guess the baked potato I've been making for the past two hours is a consolation prize

captain america excited about the win
  • figures Captain America would be rooting for the Patriots
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
I sorta watched the game at a party. When the Pats got that last, "Oh no you don't" interception, one girl at the party screamed with joy so hard that she literally had to lie down on the floor afterwards.
  • I have cut a caper with the dancing mad god
I was invited to go watch at a friend's. Had a pretty good time.

It was sort of cool seeing pre-game (though they didn't focus on the band as much as I'd've liked. Or at all, really) and half-time, since I'm friends with some of the people in it through my marching band fraternity. They pulled on students from ASU's band to be the palm trees and the people holding the glowy balloon things.

The marching band fraternity's current president is their drum major. It was a neat moment for him, since he's graduating this year. It's hard to beat finishing out your college drum major career conducting at the superbowl.

Given that I live in Washington, I do think that I wouldn't have been invited anywhere today had I been rooting for the Patriots :P
  • You're in Seattle too, Corvidium?  We should catch a beer or coffee or whisky or other-beverage-of-choice sometime.

I went to the store afterward.  Seattle is PISSED.  And everyone's an expert on what they should have done.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i assume everyone is in agreement on what they *shouldn't* have done
  • Well yeah, because it didn't work. If it had worked, it would be deemed brilliant.

What I do have to say is that it was a great game and fought down to the wire, and that's what I like to see in a sporting contest; two closely matched teams in a close contest.  Both proved themselves good enough to win, but only one could.

Coffee. (I'm not old enough to drink quite yet).

EDIT: I just remembered I have Vampire on Wednesday. Any weekday work for you?

I've been kinda regretting my decision to stay up late to watch a sport I barely understand, but then I would have missed the great British Superbowl commercials, like the one for an iPad game called Boom Beach

Aliroz is also a fan of sorts, as is LW

Sorry, I actually decided not to watch the game this year because I was still recovering from the Packers' loss to the Seahawks in the NFC championship game. I did not really have a team to root for this year, but I guess I am glad the Sehawks lost because of the aforementioned championship game.

Rodgers got the MVP though, so I guess there was some consolation in that for me.
