I just prefer the hard G because it sounds and looks right to me. While it does mentally rub me the wrong way when I hear it the other way, I ultimately have to acknowledge that it just doesn't even matter.

I use the soft g because it just seems to fit better to me. Also because my mother worked for CompuServe back when GIF was still catching on and she said they used the soft g internally.
