The 1980s penchant for escapism

See, when Reagan was in office, there was at least that.

With the Bush Administration, popular entertainment seemed a lot more overtly junky and less fun. Maybe it feels this way because I lived through the 2000s while the 1980s junk has been forgotten...

    The 1980s junk also had a sort of goofy charm to it, like "who cares if Russia wants to blow us up, let's dance". The 2000s was typified by reality television and contrived drama, and so it doesn't seem nearly as fun unless you like soap operas.
