"The Well and the Lighthouse" is decent, at least, although in context it's a pretty funny stinger.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Actually, there are some decent choices in general there, but the gestalt is... very teenybopper?
  • all this Muse reminds me of Twilight

which is unfortunate because even though they made bank off of it no band deserves to be permanently associated with Twilight

-side eyes Stephenie Meyer yet again-
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I will always think of Muse as that one band that really, reeeeeeally wants to be Radiohead with extra Queen sprinkles. And coincidentally has a really good guitarist.

    Funny you should mention that

    Oh wow.

    This makes so much sense.

i confess that Muse significantly improved that movie for me

i would not have guessed that Meyer would be into MCR or Dashboard Confessional, but neither am i surprised

I really really really really really really really hate the name Dashboard Confessional

    /random aside
  • isn't dashboard confessional like the nadir of emo
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    that is their reputation

i think i have heard like 2 of their songs?
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Not the nadir. I mean, if I'm not that familiar with their work, but I think at least one of their albums has some real critical respect? They are considered the standard-bearers of that lighter, poppier brand of emo that spawned the whole scenester thing, however...
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
But who the fuck am I kidding; I listen to Beau Navire.

'emo pop' should be a phrase

to differentiate it from the largely unrelated earlier post-hardcore genre
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Pop emo and scene emo are already in common currency. Although the whole screamo/skramz distinction is more problematic.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i would have known this if i hung around people who listen to post-hardcore, i presume

I'm ashamed that I've never listened to a Sonic Youth album all at once. I've listened to parts, but never the whole thing at once

To their partial credit, the guitarist and vocalist are both the same guy, so he at least has some genuine talent within him.

Dashboard Confessional's best songs are a pale ripoff of Danny Dyer's Chocolate Homunculus's Beige Album
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I might be thinking of their bassist, as I admittedly have not listened to Muse in a long, long time, but I remember both being more than technically proficient. It's just that their overall style and structuring and especially their vocals are just a bit of a snore.

No, I remember being impressed by some of Matt Bellamy's guitar work while still finding their general thing pretty boring too, so I think that was it.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Come to think of it, you are probably right.

All these bands are basic as hell, good only for people who haven't given Lapti Nek by The Max Rebo Band a good listen to in a while.

    ...pfffft.
