Let's make fantasy RPG magicians based on ourselves

A random thought I had last night has kind of grown on me. I started thinking about what kind of fantasy RPG character I would be if I found myself in one. I came to this conclusion (more detailed than in the main Trash Heap thread):

*I would use some offensive magic, mostly lightning, water, and fire spells. Ice and earth spells would be my main weaknesses.

*I would also have sleep and stunning spell for getting past enemies relatively peacefully.

*My favorite "utility" spells would involve animal communication and lighting up dark areas.

*I would be able to summon monster and dragon spirits for help. I'd probably be able to keep up with 10-12 of them, and I already have ideas for 5 slots which I'll detail in a later post.

So what kind of magic would you want to use in a fantasy RPG? And if anyone doesn't mind, any suggestions for summoning monsters?

I would use the best spells that were reasonably accessible to me. Of course I would prioritize offensive and defensive magic if I had to go fight a bunch of battles. Chances are that I'd be more content doing research on magic itself than risking my life.

● Dowsing : I could detect and find any object I desired, and gain knowledge of it's whereabouts at will.
● Mindreading: I could predict/anticipate actions and motives, understand memorized information, and observe memories of anything that stores information biologically. Easy to tell if one would be a traitor or potential villain, and would allow me to find the right group to join.
● Geomancy: I will generate gold and precious earthen materials to pay for trustworthy mercenaries to kill enemies I could not kill myself, and dowse for extremely precious metals to be refined into important objects for those protecting and serving me. I would generate objects from the elements nearby, and use Earthquakes to completely annihilate entire landscapes if in dire straits. I would also adorn myself in gaudy jewelry, and have my own set of mithril dresses.
● Transvection / Levitation: I would really not like to fall into any giant holes I might cause in the misuse of my powers.

@Gelzo: I see what you mean. Assuming I didn't get roped into any adventures, I'd probably be a researcher, too. Plus, I wouldn't have quite as much use for my elemental spells unless I took up the wizard equivalent of martial arts or something.

Also, the five slots out of twelve I have in mind for summoning magic are a qilin, a sea serpent, two conventional dragons, and possibly a phoenix.

You know, I think a weak form of telekinesis or teleportation should be a sufficient offense unless there's something preventing you from making small incisions or teleporting a pebble into an attacker's brain.

Depends on what we would be fighting.

Bandits, Goblins and Wolves, yeah, Pebble Missiles would be efficient.

Yeah, come to think of it, that wouldn't do much against a slime.

In the world of Geomancy I could resort to Stalactite/mite missiles or fusillades.

@ProfessorGator Suggestions: manticore, pegasus, nuckelavee, trio of kamaitachi (may not be worth expending 3 slots though), Flatwoods monster, golem, thunderbird, ifrit, ya-te-veo, baykok, poltergeist, laelaps.

Tried to come up with a variety for if you were aiming for a balanced party.

Although I wouldn't mind being able to summoning Sand Worms, Behirs or Saturn Worms.

A sand worm is an awesome idea, assuming you're talking Dune as opposed to the small slimy sea animal.

@Fourier: Thanks! Out of those, I like the pegasus, kamaitachi (those could be a 3-in-1), thunderbird, ya-te-veo (a sentient tree made of what appears to be giant venus flytraps, what more could you ask for?), and Laelaps best.

I was also considering a sea guardian sperm whale, but that would be redundant with a Cetus-style serpent.

Magic that puts people to sleep sounds like something I'd use too, since it lets me disable people without actually killing.

@Idler: Nice. Glad to see someone else thinks that sort of thing would be useful. Though instead of binding spells, I had more of a Pokémon Thunder Wave in mind.

@Deathonabun: Don't see why not. Sounds pretty creative.

I imagine light-ish weapons, as I feel like they would be easier to toss around with reckless abandon.

So raipers, swords, daggers, various throwing weapons, etc.
