So, occasionally I can turn my brain off and just appreciate something for what it is.

A Robert Rodriguez movie in which a shot gun blows someone across the room? Fine.

An action film where a grenade arms and detonates within a couple feet? Fine.

Dramatic Gun Cock in which someone cocks a gun that doesn't need it? NO HOLLYWOOD, THAT'S A BAD HOLLY WOOD.

Critical research failures? Also obnoxious.

So what grinds your gears when you watch TV and movies, or was there a specific scene in something you otherwise liked that drove you batty?

In one episode of SVU, SVU's reaction to discovering that a reproductive abuser hasn't actually done anything illegal is to poke around his private life in the vague hope that he might have done something actually illegal. When they discover that the only crime he committed is a misdemeanor that he probably won't even get jail time for, they contact everyone he's ever harmed to come to the police station and harass him, because apparently investigating actual crimes has taken a back seat to their vendetta against this guy. Then one of his victims whom they contacted kills him. She tries to justify her actions, but Stabler's response is that he hadn't actually done anything illegal. Well where the hell was that attitude earlier?

Not really a movie or tv show but that scene in Arkham City where the helicopters have snipers on them murdering random inmates. (Some of whom are just political prisoners) and Batman totally ignores them.

Pisses me off.

Idler: Sometimes I wonder if the SVU writers are trolls. I'm not sure if I can quantify that any further, but that just screams Teasing Creator there. Get everyone worked up, and then say "OOPS I GUESS WE HAVE TO UPHOLD THE LAW NOW LOL".

There's a part in Arkham Asylum where Joker releases some of the inmates that aren't actually villainous, just insane. They run towards you and grab onto you and you can only make them stop by smashing their heads in.

X-Files occasionally has some bad episodes. I can usually handle that. Though Mulder is convinced that "there's no such thing as aliens" in the 5th season a little too easily.

A couple of critical research familiars that bugged the hell out of me:

Shapes called it's Werewolf creature Manitou. This is pretty damn close to claiming that Jesus was a Werewolf in terms of some Native American mythology..

Teliko is the name of an episode and also the name of the African monster in the episode, or albino human that needed to murder to stay alive. He stabbed people in the nose up to the brain to eat their delicious pituitary gland. Trouble is, Teliko is also the name of an African creator deity that made human beings.

To their credit, they did do one episode with an upside-down cross and identified it as St. Peters (Mulder assumed it was Satanism, he was wrong).

Seems the Christian episodes are usually well researched, but the mythology ones could be hit or miss.

Hollywood writers, I know it's pretty hard for you guys to get a date and conceive a baby with someone, but you could always ASK a doctor or nurse how long the birthing process usually lasts.

Maybe, but if Hollywood writers are trying to change biology to create drama while maintaining suspension of disbelief, mission failed in this case.
