also I have actually seen a couple (early) episodes of the newest anime. It's not bad. The duels are interesting, which is the show's sole draw, so that's neat.
also I am deeply, deeply saddened by the localization teams' decision to translate "Roaring Express Train Rocket-Arrow" to the much more boring "Rocket Arrow Express".
because this will help me calm down, a breakdown of the deck I'm using in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds World Championship 2011. Note that several of these cards were unlimited at the time and are now limited, or were limited at the time and now banned.
This is a pretty straightforward deck if you know the ins and outs of the YuGiOh card game. Worms are an archetype built around being set. All of the weaker monsters gain almost no value by being summoned normally, instead having a variety of flip effects that are triggered, usually, when your opponent attacks them.
This deck's entire goal is to stall the opponent long enough to bring out Worm Zero. The best way to do this is via Future Fusion. If it can be protected (such as via Solemn Judgment, and pre-emptive zapping of any troublesome set s/t cards by way of Nobleman of Extermination and Raigeki Break) this can get you a Worm Zero with a comically large 5,000 ATK as early as the third turn, which for the card pool this game has, is insanity (this is pre-Xyz days, don't forget).
Worm Zero is an extremely versatile card, but because the number of effects it has is tied to how many monsters with different names were used to fuse it, it's best not to call it out until you can fuse at least four distinct worms to make it. Zero's first ability (summon any Worm from your graveyard in face-down defense position) is good enough, but its second ability is why we want at least four monsters. Being able to banish a Worm in our graveyard to remove any monster on the field, and being able to do this an unlimited amount of times per turn, is absurd, and it's not terribly difficult to set up a one- or at most two-turn kill with this. Zero's third ability (draw a card once per turn) is nice, but by the time you have him out on the field already you're not as worried about drawing cards.
As for how to get Future Fusion (or a decent selection of Worms + Polymerization) into your hand, there are several cards here that facilitate that. Reckless Greed is a straightforward deck thinner, so's Upstart Goblin. Card Destruction is fun in that it lets you disrupt your opponent's hand while simultaneously refreshing yours, and Morphing Jar lets you draw five fresh cards regardless of what you had in your hand before!
Finally we have the stalls. In addition to the Worms themselves which, aside from Worms King, Illidan, and Gulse (who are backup beatsticks for when Zero just isn't quite enough on his own) will almost always be set face-down, we have the famous Swords of Revealing Light, who buy you a stupid three turns. No Entry!! doesn't do as much, but well-timed, can still buy you the last turn you need to pull off a big combo. Lastly, Sakuretsu Armor can disrupt an opponent's ace monster, letting you pull a from-behind victory if deployed properly.
I'm just realizing now how bs Swords of Revealing Light are
I know that comparing YGH to other card games (where stalling for three turns will just shut down any aggro deck) is a foolish endeavor, but even in the context of the game itself, that's a lot of potential damage you're blocking

Too busy building decks filled with cuties. the fifth YGO anime will star Shadow the Hedgehog as a protagonist.
