A thread about just Penguin Books, not Random House.

A British book publisher whose main imprint is known for its striking aesthetic style and perhaps a reverent attitude towards the art and cultural institution of literature.

But also a thread for me to gush about aesthetic achievements tied to them and other things I notice about them.

It's definitely an old-style grotesque, but I can't tell if it's Monotype or Blake.

Also, recently I learned that the British designer Jan Tschichold was behind much of Penguin's design philosophy, including updating the iconic orange-and-white covers

But I admit to being a bigger fan of what Germano Facetti did at Penguin. The classic covers are appealing, but they don't say anything about the books, beyond the color-coded genre system.

The illustrations on Penguin book covers during Facetti's time as its head of design are, from what I've seen, very lovingly made...
