    controversial statement

posting of racist puffin image macro
  • Here's a controversial opinion.

The world is an ever-constantly changing thing, just because you feel this tradition or that tradition is or was right at one point in the blue sphere's lifetime doesn't make it so in this world.

i consider 6 am a legitimate, if somewhat early, time to get up in the morning
  • Certainly a better time that midnight, I would think. Besides, it makes sense for a day to start just a smidge before the average person would wake up, right?
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
midnight isn't the start of the day

    nobody thinks that
  • Your human conceptions of day and night make no sense to people who get 30 days of no sunlight.

and by which I mean, that Vampire movie in Alaska.

That's when the day changes though, that's what I meant.

    changes on what
  • Like that's when "tomorrow" happens. I think that's weird.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    it's not though

it's the middle of the night
  • No I mean literally

March 23 becomes March 24 on midnight. I think that's really odd time for that occurrence.

well, it makes sense for the day to start at zero, doesn't it?

if the day started at 6 we would have to rename 6.00 to 0.00

    then 6pm would become 12.00

    and midnight would be 18.00
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Or noon would become 6 AM, midnight 6 PM, depending on where you are. Still a bit confusing, given that midday is usually used as the crux of the passage of days.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
what about non-racist Puffin images like this one:

    that puffin is fine

    i like that puffin
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I like to start my day at 5 pm and go to sleep at 9 am.
  • I just started giggling hysterically at this thread. whyyyyyyyy.

    cuz u silly
  • Nah, I'm not silly. Mostly 'cause the word silly is silly.

    I'm weeeeeeeeird.

    Controversial opinion: I like Monday.

OP is not controversial; it is agreed to by the residents of Random Hall at MIT.
Random Standard Time: a "time zone" in which 6:00:0 AM is designated as the start of a new day, rather than midnight (12:00:00 AM/0:00:00).  Thus, from the period of 11:59:59 AM to 5:59:59 AM, it is not the next day yet.  Technically intermediate between a time zone and a time terminology convention.

Better than Tuesday at any rate. Mondays can be nice and cathartic after the absolute misery that is Sundays, too.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    what's miserable about Sundays?
  • Waiting for Monday.
  • This thread is 8ecoming even more thingish as it progresses.

I like Mondays too, because with my weird schedule they're my day off.

Um. Controversial opinion: I dislike onion rings. (It's the texture that 8ugs me, not the flavor; stuff like Funyuns and onion-flavored crisps are fine.)

    that seems a bit.......random

also onion rings own, y'all suck
  • I'm neutral on onion rings

They're just a thing that exist

  • crunchy onion rings >

soft, weak, pitiful onion rings <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Mo tells it like it is.
  • I do like crunchy ones better than the soggy ones there

In general, though, I don't really go one way or another as far as onion rings are concerned
  • @spinor: it probably has more to do with the fact that people are often up until nearing 6 AM.
  • selected by dice roll

    guaranteed to be random
  • I'm surprised he didn't pick 17

then again he didn't go to MIT, so that would explain his ignorance
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    is that an MIT in-joke?

only, generally, people with awareness of the human brain's bias towards considering 17 'random' are less likely to pick it, as you would expect
  • Yes.  I think it's also related to the 17 being the least random number thing.
  • Did someone say dice roll? ::::D
  • Ohyeah and yeah I got sta88ed and died and stuff.

    I am now 8ack.

8ecause I am, in actuality, Kenny McCormick.
  • Either that or "not liking onion rings" doesn't count as heroic or just.
  • Controversial opinion: I like M.I.A.'s third and fourth albums better than her first two
  • i have been ok with what i have heard from M.I.A.
  • "Bucky Done Gun" is a ripoff of "Injecion" and "Paper Planes" is a really good song.

I have summed up my opinions of MIA.

Controversial Opinion:  Brahehus is beautiful, but I prefer Graborg castle.

In an actual assault, I'd like Eketorp.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
"Paper Planes" is really good, but it's definitely not as good as The Clash song that it samples... but said song, "Straight to Hell", is a bit longer than it needs to be, and also makes a less interesting political point despite being fairly poignant.

So an uncontroversial opinion followed by a marginally controversial one?
  • I read that as "I got staffed"
