Plastic snow shovels

Is it just me, or are these things bloody WORTHLESS?

Like, they're okay if you want to just clean off some fresh-fallen snow, but if you have any kind of ice on your sidewalk, it'll be almost impossible to break it up and scrape it off with a plastic shovel because the blade is just too soft. :\

I need to properly reattach the handle on our metal shovel...
