Pacific Rim is a chilling warning about the dangers of unchecked oil drilling and excessive construction. The rift naturally represents oil wells, and the Kaiju the consequences of drilling too deep. Kaiju Blue is, of course, analogous to oil spills. The defensive wall is a metaphor for the lack of regulation in construction, and its collapse representative of society as a whole. Jaegers are the regulators, beating back the threat of Big Oil.

And by all this I mean that Pacific Rim is about giant mecha fighting monsters and adorable people acting adorable.
