"Hey there game called : 'Unknown Horizons' looks nice, let's try it!"
"Hmm : 'sudo layman -a gamerlay && sudo emerge -av unknown-horizons'. I was suppose to install layman anyway at some point, sure"

*try layman -a gamerlay* (not using sudo because I don't have sudo)

"Ah! Some dependencies are not met, that's weird portage is suppose to.... wait... haskell?"

*try haskell-updater*

"Hmmm, looks like there is some mask issues"

*try haskell-updater --autounmask-write*

"Oh yeah right... that doesn't work... durrrr~"

"Hmmm... let's just try updating everything, I have new use flags anyway"

*emerge --update --deep --with-bdeps=y --newuse world*

5 hours ago, still waiting...

Why an I doing this already? Oh yeah, to try a game..

Thanks!! ...how did I forgot about that... I feel dumb now...
  • I don't know...I will always remember...lurking, deep inside my dark soul.

But seriously, revdep-rebuild recursively crashing on me was a nightmare.
  • As far as source-based distros go, though, I miss GoboLinux.

I've heard GoboLinux is amazing. If I ever end up replacing my old computer I'm probably going to give it a shot.

[SITREP : dev-haskell/network needs dev-haskell/parsec... which I have ; haskell-updater requires an unstable version of alsa-core, unmasked, yet that doesn't make anything emerge]

I think I'm gonna play around a bit a make the ./configure skip checking that :V

    (flower path)
Why would haskell-updater need ALSA?  That's a weird dependency.

As for Gobo, the problem is that it basically hasn't been updated in years.

I would guess because of dev-haskell/alsa-mixer

I just checked and yeah :/
Maybe I could have fun with LFS again :B
  • LFS could be really fun.  As it is, though, I'm currently on Arch.
  • Yay, Linux

Also this thread has inspired the worst of puns, that which can be found in my signature.

    I hope you're happy.

Arch was my previous distro actually... One of my favorite, I still install it on most things that I don't feel like setting up a bunch of USE

Ironically, the thing that I cannot seems to be able to install! :P
  • also: gotta compile fast

"haskell-updater" sounds like A Bad Thing

the interaction between language packages and system packages seems like hell on the best of days

i don't know enough about haskell-updater to say more though tbh

I used haskell-updater once in a while, my WM is written in Haskell after all.
