Most of the pony people aren't white either. They're all different colors. Crissy's design follows pretty closely to how she'd be rendered in Equestria girls.
I find it pretty hard to believe that the creator was attempting to create some form of social commentary.

I know ponies think the Mysterious Mare Do Well episode was rather passive aggressive, but Friday pointed out to me that the episode before, Rainbow Dash forced a bunch of animals to compete for her affection including exposing them to giant, terrestrial eels that tried to eat them.
She didn't ask them to do anything she wouldn't do herself. And the most dangerous part she did do herself. If anything, Dash was giving them a taste of what life would be like as her pet.

I suppose. Though, she ran them through a canyon that she's done time and time again and expected them to keep up. I really don't think she really considered safety here.
Though, kind of strange everyone else was okay with the "These animals might get eaten by eels" idea.
A thought occurred to me the other day.The twilight is the transitional period between day and night. In the same way, Twilight Sparkle brought about the reconciliation of the Princess of the Day and the Princess of the Night—that's been pointed out before a bunch of places. What if reconciliation and mediation become the official duties of the Twilight Princess?
Perhaps she can be the mediator between the common citizens and the other Princesses. (It's already implied that Celestia isn't happy that her little ponies regard her with such reverence and fright.) Hence why the line of research leading to her alicoronation meant Twilight had to get out and mingle with ponies, rather than staying cooped up in her library. Hence why Twi's new friends and new home were in a small town in the middle of nowhere, not in Canterlot. Celestia wanted a new Princess who had close ties with the lower classes, who the lower-class ponies could in turn view as just a fellow pony, not an outsider.Princess Celestia? She lives in a castle on top of a mountain, raises the sun every morning, and keeps those noble ponies in line. I saw her in a parade, once.
Princess Twilight? She's the librarian. She knows who my favorite author is, and orders every new book of his without me needing to ask. Sometimes I forget she's actually a Princess, and she doesn't seem to mind.

They like each other, but word from the creators is that season 4 won't explicitly reference the events of Equestria Girls, meaning Flash won't show up again. (I haven't read the novelization, but I'm told that it specifies that Twi just has a crush on Flash, nothing more.)
Of course, that leaves open the possibility that Flash will come back in season 5.
