    That's a rather strange interpretation.

    I don't have the time to read the article but the original Star Trek is generally considered to be one of the most socially progressive shows of its time.

    Star Trek was apparently supposed to be part Gulliver's Travels, part space Western, part optimistic humanism, and part Theiss Titillation Theory.

    I remember reading that article a while back and thinking it raised some good points, but I don't think that's reason enough to uniformly condemn the show, which is well-intentioned and has many positive aspects.

    I think it's probably that it was intended to have positive messages, but still unwittingly carried some negative ones, being a product of its time and all.

    No. CBS owns     Star Trek through CBS Television Studios, which used to be Paramount Television. They got to keep it in the CBS-Viacom split, as it was deemed a "slow-growth property" along with the rest of CBS Corporation's assets.
