I have an idea for a video game.

Two: Would anyone here be willing to help me out with making it?

Okay, so the idea.

Basically, it would be a slightly minimalistic sprite-based fantasy sandbox game reminiscent of the Elder Scrolls series  with a stronger emphasis on collecting loot (it would be randomized and have enough possible combinations for every weapon and/or piece of armor to be unique), exploration for exploration's sake, randomization, and setting your own goals.

if you're going with something elder scrollsey, you could probably grab RPGMaker, but it's apparently rather hard to use.

I dunno. I have no useful skills here.

Otherwise, you could try the UDK, among others.

Sounds like you pretty much have a Roguelike in mind. Roguelikes are very popular for amateur game programming projects with a lot of resources just for making roguelikes with examples in every possible programming language you can imagine.

What ^ said. If you found a Roguelike engine that supports NPCs and non-randomized maps, you'd pretty much have what you need. Something like the Diablo 1/2 engine, only not isometric.
