To get this joke would I have to be familiar with Gen V?
  • Yes.

You would also be required to be familiar with competitive battling.

It would have worked better with a more stereotypical OU Pokemon, like Blissey.

Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."

You would also be required to be familiar with competitive battling.

    My thought process:
Hmm, let's see. It's probably an obscure aspect of the metagame I don't know about, since I don't really do competitive battling. (repeats joke out loud) "Oh, you..." OH! That took me way longer than it should have.

And while we're at it, I thought the stereotypical OU Pokémon was Scizor.

    I thought it was Charizard.

I'm not sure I've ever heard the term "OU Pokémon" before.
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
    Character tiers.

    They go

    Uber

    Overused

    Borderline

    Underused

    Neverused

Basically, you know about "tournament" play in Super Smash Bros.? It's kind of like that. Overused, or OU, is the "standard" competitive tier.
  • I dunno what the competitive battling scene looks like w/ the newest gen and all.

Yeah, without googling, I have absolutely no clue which Pokémon are overused beyond an assumption that they're probably the most powerful or strategically useful/broken ones.

    In gen 4

but in gen 5 it's like:

    Uber

    Overused

    Borderline

    Underused

    Borderline 2

    Rarelyused

    Neverused

    I think
  • i wish to come up with a song lyric for this signature, but no song lyrics are coming to mind
    What would be neverused?

Stereotypically, it would be stuff like Luvdisc, Butterfree, and Magikarp. But according to a brief scan of Smogon, a good 1/3 or so of all the Pokémon are included in it. From what I've heard, it's a surprisingly popular tier to play in.

Yeah, cause all the fun mons are there.

I heard Ubers is the most balanced.

  • Guess this was a thorny topic, since people had to ferrot out the joke.
  • ...so you're banned now.

That's the entire point of tiers. If it wasn't for them, the weaker Pokemon would literally be "never used".
