That word you're using has a different definition than you assumed, but fits in all the same places.

Ha, I hit the character limit for the title.

Anyway, I was going to use the word "bemused". I always thought it meant something along the lines of some combination of feeling facepalmy and somewhat... amused, but it turns out it just means being puzzled.

I think I've only really used it to describe reactions to other people. In that case, I guess either sense would have described the situation. So I guess I've unwittingly been using it properly.

Not all dictionaries seem to agree on what "bemused" means. For instance:

"Intentional" confused me so much in literary criticism essays.

Mainly because I knew one thing it meant, but not what was actually meant (Derrida and critics influenced by him often use the word in the phenomenological sense, which is not something we ever learned in class).
