Just to lay it on thick:
Interstate 10 actually does go coast-to-coast, from Santa Monica, California to Jacksonville, Florida. It has nearly a thousand miles of length within Texas alone. The segment west of Texas, and the segment east of Texas, are each almost as long as the segment in Texas.

Despite all the incessant bragging about Texas's size, we really do forget how big Texas is.

And Alaska, for that matter. 

Did you know that Texas essentially has it's own electrical power infrastructure? It's that big and that stubbornly independent.
