Why are capture cards still necessary?

It's 2017. Is there a reason that PCs don't already come with a video input built-in?

  • It's fukkhen ridiculous how difficult it can be to capture footage.
  • I'm just gonna assume this is a reply to me posting that video of my computer's graphical glitches in my personal thread and how I just used a phone to record my screen
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
That was what inspired it, yeah, though it's not like a capture card would have made much sense in that case, since you'd need a separate computer to record to.

  • ...is why I haven't bought one of my own :p
  • Well, I've still yet to try out the direct Twitch streaming on it, but the game recording tech in the Xbox One is convenient, if a bit cumbersome without a Kinect/Cortana

Hopefully I'll be able to get a capture card in the future to make getting gameplay footage a bit easier if I ever wanted to do non-live let's plays, but beggars can't be choosers, I guess.
