    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    I have seen him outside of the context of his show and he is very charming, funny, and smart, but his show just... isn't and wasn't any of those things. So I guess his being a cool guy otherwise allowed him to coast?

    That, and his usual comedy is just safe enough and just brash enough to appeal to the largest possible swath of people despite being kinda meh and seriously unmemorable.
