your daily reminder that "Chocolate" by Soul Control is a real song

  • There are more things on heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy, Horatio.
one of a number of weird faceless pop songs that have somehow managed to chart in Europe over the years alongside such numbers as "Who The X Is Alice" by Gompie, "U Got 2 Let The Music" by 'Capella, and "Around The World" by ATC. I made none of those up but would you really know if I did??
  • "Around the World" is rather catchy, actually.

    Sure, so's "Chocolate".

They're all just kinda weird is what I was getting at.
  • and there ain't nothing wrong with weird
  • “Alice is like Princess Kaguya, except instead of being found in a stalk of bamboo and sending suitors on impossible quests, she was found in a toy store and eats all the candy.” – Fossilmaiden
I am glad I partook in watching that video

Jane I am disappointed in your choice of category for this thread
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Moved to the appropriate category.

On that note, there's something deeply confusing about how sexual and sexless this song is at the same time. The fact that they're performing for what looks like a mostly unengaged crowd of picnicking Germans just takes it to another level and further underlines the intense late '90s/early '00s-ness of it all.

the song was, in fact, released in Germany. Which I think it may have been a minor hit in? Info on this band is very hard to find.

every song in this...genre? is like that. Also check out "Sex On The Beach" by T-Spoon (which I have sampled!). Probably the most chaste song with 'sex' in the title in existence.

would the term "bubblegum pop" be applicable to this type of song?

    No, I don't think so.

Soul Control sounds like it should be a gospel/power metal crossover act.
  • soul control sounds like the name of the token edgy anti-religion song by a european metal band that normally sings about orcs

Kenji Nakamura directed that show. I've seen I think two episodes of it? It's really odd.

One thing I didn't really appreciate before is that they're both lipsynching even in the parts where there's clearly only one voice. (Including the spoken part at the beginning.)
