  • I had 26.50 in store credit

I just bought a Rick Owens jacket for 75 cents
  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...
    Niiiice.
  • kill living beings
not to detract from this frankly incredible feat of bargain hunting, but is "DRKSHDW" an abbreviated "Dark Shadow" like it looks like, because ha ha
  • drkshdw is Rick's lower-end, more "wearable" ready-to-wear line
  • kill living beings
    does lower-end mean cheaper or
  • yeah, it's "cheaper"

  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
Cheaper, for when you're only Really Rich, instead of Insanely Rich.
  • it's more "cheaper, so you can afford to buy a thing or two if you're decently off and are willing to scrimp and save"
  • so again, just Rich as opposed to Richer Than Croesus.
  • kill living beings
at least it's an actual jacket and not one of those multibenjamin t-shirts.
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.

what does ready-to-wear mean in this context

  • clothing made in a factory to standard sizes and sold in a store, normal clothes
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
prêt-à-porter and not true French haute couture
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.

  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i got really worried the first time i saw this thread title
  • different strokes for different folks

well it's obviously not your stroke because it's not the breaststroke
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    well that's mine, yeppers
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Also, Rick Owens' haute couture stuff tends to be more like wearable sculpture than conventional clothing, and as noted tends to be tailored to the body of the person presenting it. Even his tamer work is pretty wild.

Which is to say: HOLY SHIT, SCORE. *high-fives*
  • ohhhh, you mean his runway stuff? that's not couture, that's his RTW mainline

all this is stuff you can absolutely buy in-store, Rick makes a point of it.

that's why DRKSHDW is described as "wearable", it's out-there compared to most other stuff but it's still something that your favorite rapper or Orlando Bloom or whoever could wear walking down the street without anyone batting an eye
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I want that last one. Or maybe that first one.
  • RE: that last one: all the embroidered pieces for Faun were insane

that's one of the things i really love about Rick: each collection he does responds to contemporary trends, but utterly subsumes them.

Embroidered jackets are in? you get garments that essentially serve as canvases for surreal, leering, highly textural faces.

Baggy pants and oversized hoodies like the 90s? grey wool pools on the floor and are indistinguishable from the massive fluffy grey parka-thing

    band shirt?

and last but not least: military jackets are in? A blazer with nods to the wehrmacht panzer uniform, paired with those 90s pants in a manner that is somehow seamless
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    dude looks scary
  • wow i forgot how high my rick stan level is jeez

    animal skin

    towel

    modern art

    sandwich board

    chinese art

    "i like words too much"

and finally, something that looks relatively sane for wearing, but that guy...fucking hate that guy already, i mean i barely know him and he's already glowering at me
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Glenn, if you don't like something, there are better ways to address it than to complain about it in the most ignorant and presumptuous way possible, particularly in a thread made by someone talking about how they like that thing which you could easily have ignored or skipped over to no adverse effect.
