Birds as deferential to mankind

For some reason - NBC, Thanksgiving (the American variety) - I have come to associate birds showing their tail feathers like so with an offering of bountiful gifts to mankind. Food, entertainment, demands for gratitude - it is what birds like that come bearing when their tail feathers are spread out like that. Like the avian Santa.

    Interesting.

i see that quite differently.  To me, that bird gesture seems like a show of importance, like they are demanding to be worshipped or admired.

That's how I viewed it too.

Especially when a peacock does it.
