why does anyone subscribe to youtube channels

i mean, doesn't everyone just use the search function when looking for a specific vid?

  • Nice try xeno scum but you're going to have be a lot more clever than that to learn our way of thinking and infiltrate our human society
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I can't tell what level of seriousness you're operating at here

Surely "I want to be notified of new videos from this producer" is not a foreign concept to you

    sufficiently low

though it is true that i don't ever make use of my subscriptions since every time i go to youtube i DO use the search
it's like, i wanna see videos about this topic, or i wanna see a let's play of that game, or i want to hear this music track extended, or i want to search for youtube poops of that specific video source, or i want to find an AMV involving this song or that series, etc.

it's never been "what is this person up to" or "what has that person newly uploaded"
  • Glenn, I feel like you question why people aren't like you when it comes to various things. :/

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
It's convenient and I often forget that certain channels exist otherwise.
  • I tend to get some underlying condescension from them though.

Here's a good way to avoid condescension: Imagine you do a thing, and someone seemingly rhetorically asks, "Why would anyone ever do that?" Keep that implicit emphasis in mind and avoid structuring your sentences in a way that implies that emphasis.

the whole point of this type of thread is shitposting
  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...
... why do you nigh-uniformly say that in response to confusion or distaste of any form, when wonderposting as such?
  • oh you know what,

and for that matter i'm going to not simply mutter underneath my breath but i'm just going to come right out and say it and speak my mind

    Glenn.

You can make dumb posts with no real point and not be a jerk in those posts. It isn't difficult for most people. "I'm just blathering" is not an excuse.

this is basically an innocent opinion and you know it
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
But the way that you worded it was condescending and smug, and that is often the case. You are capable of doing better, but you don't.
  • i wasn't really feeling condescending at first

but you know what, fuck it, now i am

    subscriptions are useless

wow, even when i try i suck at producing flames
  • actually i could probably just get myself auto-banned if i posted something about how gender doesn't matter or something like that

    ...nah, i won't do that

i get pissed off about it
  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...
It's tantamount to me being all, hm what's something I don't care about... football, right. Making a thread about why anyone follows football teams, posting obtusely, and then when I come off as annoying I "Well I just meant to wonderpost."

actually i could probably just get myself auto-banned if i posted something about how gender doesn't matter or something like that

    ...nah, i won't do that

    You... basically just did?
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
You *can* get probated (if not banned) for insulting a mod who is not so subtly implying that you should chill out post-haste.

I don't like waving around the mod stick, but I think you need a break.

well I did truly mean to wonderpost when I made the thread.  It was meant as in "I'm going to say something stupid, knowing that it's stupid, just because I can say it's stupid due to this being a wonderposty place so I can be a little stupid today".

and honestly if you said that you had no interest in whatever i blabber about, you've got a right to post that too
  • jeez, now I feel like a huge asshole now...
  • But the way that you worded it was condescending and smug, and that is often the case. You are capable of doing better, but you don't.

So when and how is it appropriate to opine that something doesn't matter or to express one's lack of interest in something?

Y'know, this is why I sometimes say I probably should just not hang out here since I just get irritated by it sometimes.

The comment that lead to people ganging up on you. If I knew this would happen, I would have never posted it.

    Ehh, don't worry about it.

I was probably pissed at things to start with and they were already probably pissed at me.  So it was just a "letting things out".

Either way, it's not your fault.
