I still don't understand why every popular anime has to be rashomon

I really don't.

I don't know why we need five different versions of the events of every popular anime.

There is Full Metal Alchemist, and then there is Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and then there is some manga

There is Neon Genesis Evangelion, and then there is Neon Genesis whatever the movies are called and then there is some manga
  • oh I get you.

I dunno. It's the remake problem I guess.

    because rashomon was pretty good

Maybe it's like how every superhero movie needs to re-cover the origin story
  • meow meow meowtherfuckers
full metal alchemist brotherhood follows the events of the manga, while full metal alchemist the first anme is its own little thing

plus *stares at years upon years of batman movies, over and over again*
  • Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben was weird
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
Also manga is a lot easier for one person to make.

Yes but the FMA arguments are more tedious

i never run into those arguments, but I've never watched FMA

    Neither have I

    kill living beings
i liked the first? fullmetal alchemist movie with the natzees and nukes, and brotherhood seems alright too

i just assumed the reason for the remake was the search for more money, coupled with an obvious plot

with evangelion it's definitely money. that is what gainax is for, even when they're not gainax

Brotherhood was, as Epi said, a more faithful adaptation to stick to the plot of the mang. Of all the arguments, for "why anime has to be Rashomon" FMA is easily the worst. They made the first anime too early into the plot of the manga then had to divert the plot so the anime could run while the manga did, they then revisted it so the Manga could get a proper adaptation, there's not much "Rashomoning" here,

NGE on the other hand is a very gratutitous example.

American comics as a whole are much more guilty of this

    You're tedious.
  • Your Mom versus Superman versus Goku who would win
  • my mom would bake them cookies so there would be no fight
  • Your mom sounds like a Mary Sue tbh plz nerf :/
  • Splat Charger Specialist
No, no, she has a point. Goku loves food as much as fighting and Superman is too much a of a Boy Scout to turn down hot homemade cookies.
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
i like how arakawa told bones what she was going to do for the rest of the manga and then told them to do their own thing
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
Milking cash cows. "X is popular, so let's make an anime based off it! Oh, there's already one? Let's make another anime, slightly different this time!"

I can bearly stand teddyous arguments.

    Yes they are very tedious
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i thought i explained how this doesn't apply in FMA's case?

if the suggestion is the manga makes Brotherhood redundant, then like, i'm gonna have to disagree because they're completely different formats, i don't normally read comics, i'm glad they adapted it, the first anime is a completely different story with very little overlap, and i like both stories

really i guess it makes me kind of sad how negatively disposed you seem to be towards a series i liked a lot
  • I...completely agree with your opinion?
  • My dreams exceed my real life
This might be SA ruining something for me again by either hating or liking something in the most obnoxious way possible.

I'm sure FMA is probably good
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    i was responding to Myr

idk about 'tedious fan arguments', i must have managed not to see those

the only place i've really talked about the show is here, and here things have been pretty civil and the discussions infrequent
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Probably by not going on SA
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Whenever there are two versions of something, SA will always be heavily partisan of one side in the most obnoxious way possible.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    ah

    not surprised, admittedly
  • tumblr is the same way as SA, unfortunately.
  • There were tedious FMA arguments on TVT as well. It is definitely A Thing.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i didn't go on TVT's anime board, either, except when posts got flagged there
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
The thing about NGE is that the planned endgame plot was eerily similar to the Aum Shinrikyo subway gas attacks and Gainax had to throw out a huge chunk of the later show on very short notice, which, coupled with Anno's breakdown, resulted in the very strange approach the team had to take in the last few episodes. Further disillusionment and frustration with fan reactions lead to where EoE goes, which creates a fork in the timeline, and I can totally see an older, healthier Anno looking back on that mess and going, "I should revisit this premise."

Cash grab? Maybe in part, but I don't think that's really the point.

I can't hate Rebuild on principle as it's what got me into Eva, but I'm still not sure what's up with the manga.
