Mabel's love of '80s pop music

This was always one thing I loved about the character

Because I'm also a hyper millennial girl who likes songs from a decade or two before I was born!!

...

This deserved its own thread, yes.

  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
the 80s were the last time pop music in general was any good.

I expect 500 posts in the next five minutes telling me this is not true.
  • I think the spam filter would actively prevent that from happening, no?

Either way, your opinion is valid on account of it being generally harmless.

Mabel's aesthetic sense in general is 80s as hell.

And we love her for it!

    Me, of course!

You mean you don't love Mabel's super-'80s tastes?
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
no, i resent that mid-century isn't hip anymore

I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
at least not in certain manifestations
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
What about the mid-century do you like?
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    the 1850s were hella cool

but Mabel would have been born in like 2000! She would have grown up exposed to plenty of '80s nostalgia stuff; '50s and '60s nostalgia, not so much
  • well, I know that at least in my case, I prefer 80's nostalgia to that of, like, the 50's-60's because I'm more familiar with media and cultural things from the era, though like any time period I can embrace stuff from the mid-century if it piques my interest sufficiently

But the '80s sucked more, at least when it comes to animation

Yes, I know all of you are perfectly content with everything. That's the problem. Contentment. Like you don't know there's so much more awaiting you.

Oh no, how terrible. When other people are "condescending" it's perfectly A-OK.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Funny thing is, I get nostalgic for 80s stuff (naturally, since I was a little calf then), but I still appreciate older stuff (like 60s) on another level.

    It's entirely possible

Really though, it does grate on me that so many people here prefer modernity and don't think it sucks

    probably

i'm going to cool off now

but my points - those phrased less venomously - still stand
  • your points are:

    * the 80s are bad from an aesthetic standpoint, with no evidence or examples given

    * the 50s are good from an aesthetic standpoint, with no evidence or examples given

they dont really stand all that well
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
But yeah. I'm not sure why I'm just supposed to accept the current zeitgeist.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Maybe I should give that its own thread

I'm just not sure where this anger came from, honestly.

I like the '80s and you like the '50s and '60s.

Surely this is a case where "to each their own" can be applied?
