  • Warm Leatherette is the only song ever written (aside from something called TVOD that nobody has ever heard) by Daniel Miller's band/project The Normal

the track is notable because Daniel Miller founded a record label to put the single out on, and that record label was Mute, home to such bands as Depeche Mode, Laibach, Erasure, Wire, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, but I digress

as for the song itself, it is notable for being covered by an absolutely ridiculous number of musicians over the years, and the subject matter: it is based on JG Ballard's Crash, a novel about car crash fetishism

the joke is you could make a whole mixtape out of covers of this one song, and the song is... not exactly a fun sexy romp
  • unless you get off on car crashes

    I've heard TVOD. It's good.

Daniel Miller did actually do other music of his own, but only a tiny handful of solo work and mostly collaborative work. He and Dome (a.k.a. Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis from Wire) made a rather good electronic album under the name Duet Emmo back in the early 1980s, specifically.
