After several attempts I have slain the gaping dragon (really evocative name, that) and acquired the blighttown key.
I also have about 25,000 souls that need spending before I even dream of delving into Blighttown. I would use them to upgrade my thief set, but I'm thinking that there are other things which I could use them for. Any suggestions? (I already have the poisonbite ring)
Seriously, babe, you told me "always spend all your souls before heading into blighttown" What am I trying to get? Rings of sacrifice? Armor upgrades? Some item I somehow missed? Or just levels?
I got the Gargoyle Halberd back on my first playthrough and used it for pretty much the rest of the game. That thing is an absolute beast if you're lucky enough for it to drop.
Don't bother. A) they don't respawn, and B) all the black knight weapons require stupid high strength to use.
If you're doing magic anyway, go for a dex build, dex reduces casting time. Get a scimitar or grind the tall, caped knights with bronze shields in the undead church for a balder side sword. I'm using one on my dex-focused character, and it's really strong when you upgrade it.

The Black Knight Sword isn't too bad, as it only requires 20 in the Strength requirement. Still not useful for a dex build, but since I tend to lean towards Strength or Quality builds, it works out pretty well for me.
Strength/Dex build basically. The term comes from Demon's Souls, where one of the upgrade paths was called Quality and had improved Strength and Dexterity scaling. The name kinda stuck around, as far as I can tell.
Also apparently I only made it this far through luck and pyromancy. (just learned about two handing weapons in the gaping dragon... and just learned how to kick a few days ago)
Feeling a little peckish, guess i'll go drop by Byrger King and get myself a large brain fluid and a side of eyes. Good thing they're open late, even on the night of the hunt...
Trying to work out the most effective way to do Gravelords. I'm thinking: Do a catacombs dash, join, do Bells->SF->AL, and then just annoy people in the rest of the areas, since you haven't murdered the bosses in them.
Started playing Dark Souls 2 again. Trying to get farm Sunlight medals to get rank 3 in heirs of the sun by doing some easy co-cop, but I haven't managed to get a single summon all day. Did everyone stop playing Dark Souls 2 or something?
Did a run to the gravelord covenant. Turns out it takes all of 5 minutes, assuming the titanite demon near the coffins doesn't crush you into the floor.
Are you playing OG Dark Souls 2 or the Scholar of the First Sin version?
OG and Scholar have separate servers.
Ah, that explains it. I'm playing on OG Dark Souls 2. I was trying to get the last two achievements for Dark Souls 2 before upgrading to scholar of the first sin, since you can't use your old save files. But since I can't get them anyway, at least not with an annoying amount of farming I might as well upgrade while it's on sale.

After you've done that uh
anyway if you hate climbing down there that much you can always just take the master key when you roll your character and go in the back way
And now I'm sad that Gravelording is such a pain in the butt to do effectively.
