This is a really cute idea but you couldn't keep it very long 'cause you'd definitely wanna take the stuff out of there before the pumpkin starts to rot...

That's... understandable really. Thanks for bringing it up.

Really it's mostly that I really, really don't see many transwomen on Tumblr. I follow a lot of people and the full spectrum of trans identities is represented save for that one conspicuous absence.
It sounds like my experience on Tumblr has been more like Naney's when it comes to this stuff, though I do not doubt what you said about your experience. I do not remember encountering anyone who identified as a transman there, but did see a bunch of people who identified as transwomen. That may have something to do with the demographics associated with the stuff I like, since my experience on Twitter and the forums I frequent has been pretty similar.

internet arguments seem to incline towards extremes and absolutes

idk why, nobody wants to be seen as backing down or insufficiently on side, i guess

If I remember right, there is some research out there suggesting that media fragmentation, including the rise of blogs, has helped increase polarization through the echo chamber effect caused by many people seeking out communities and news sources made up of and/or run by like-minded people. I am not totally sure what impact that has on internet arguments, but I feel like if someone develops and solidifies their beliefs in polarized communities, he/she is probably going to be less likely to back down when presented with an opposing viewpoint in an online debate.
  • i wanna make it clear that i also dont doubt Kex's experience, i'm just not entirely sure that it's as pervasive as he thinks it is?

then again, maybe mine isnt either

maybe most people on tumblr are cis white girls who love lates, inspirational quotes and harry potter

I always found it bizarre when people draw a hard divide between trans women and trans men and actively argue over which group is more oppressed.

It's not a problem specific to Tumblr, but it's definitely pretty pervasive there.

It's like...do you not get that this is not how activism works? First off, trans women and trans men experience different forms of prejudice, but that doesn't mean that one is objectively "worse" than the other. Secondly, we can't afford to be fighting amongst ourselves like this. We need to band together to fight transphobia in all forms!

skinhead means different things depending on who you ask.

A fair chunk of the "original" skinheads were actually black.

The fact that The Discourse has determined that the terms "male/female bodied" are offensive isn't a huge deal to me but it makes it really difficult to explain how Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days indisputably contains a trans narrative.

This was a very Kexruct statement.

    wut

i mean i already see the reasoning, but: wut
  • It's how The Discourse is, man
  • kill living beings
refer to your heartbreak kingdom characters as "bedicked" and "boobed"
  • kill living beings
BUT WAIT that could also be offensive because even if you know they were at some point presenting female before reappearing presenting male you DON'T KNOW their GENITAL STATUS

tumblr discourse eventually settles on mutilated taoism in which all words are problematic. not "bad", since that's a slur on hermaphrodites
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
    Daoism? What?
  • kill living beings
the tao that can be spoken of
  • refer to your heartbreak kingdom characters as "bedicked" and "boobed"

Given the circumstances of the character in question I'm not sure that's appropriate

Which I'm fairly certain is your point

  • I have rapidly grown to hate the word "discourse".

You can take dis course right here

You know the people whose response to the Zamii thing is "it's not ok to bully people, but that doesn't mean problematic artists should never be called out"?

I'm choosing to believe the people saying that are unaware of the actual nature of the crap that was directed at Zamii.

Because the alternative is that they consider "Stop drawing Pearl with a small nose because I think she's Jewish" as important enough to be worth demanding the right to say it regardless of the potential to do harm...and misanthropic as I am, I'm not ready to assume the worst of people to that level.

    That's my take too.
  • I know this is everyone's least favorite topic but

You know, a lot of the jokes about John Green /are/ funny, in much the same way jokes about Banksy are funny, albeit with a less worthy topic

At this point people are essentially just trolling him and I'd be (to an extent) okay with that if people would just fucking cop to that, and admit it's always been about making fun of a guy who writes books teenage girls like and stop pretending they actually think he's a child molester or whatever
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
as far as i'm concerned they went too far and when things have gone that far over the line it's impossible just turn around and pretend otherwise

they hurt him, there are things you don't joke about
  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...
It's not okay to bully people, and Problematic (TM) artists have a right as any other to be called out (although callout culture in itself is, well, that's a subject unto itself); but harassment campaigns are a no-go in my book. That is my very controversial and sure to stir the pot viewpoint.
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
Yeah, I think I said this already, but I might as well say it again:

These John Green jokes would be funny to me if they weren’t about a person who was actively harassed off of Tumblr.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i was referring to Green above, but it goes doubly for the Zamii thing
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
john green was harassed off tumblr?
  • We can do anything if we do it together.

He severely cut back his participation on the site due to the child molester jokes Kex alluded to.
  • yeah, people accused him of being a child molester or something and he got fed up with it

I don't know all the details
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
it wasn't just jokes, it was a deliberate rumour

people decided it was creepy that he was a grown man writing reassuring things for teen girls, so they decided they had a duty to 'warn' people that he was, therefore, probably a child molester
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
    I can't troll someone who isn't around.

Also, he's basically our sin-eater. Our ritual scapegoat. At any point if there's any change to the functionality, we can blame him.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    i just think that's shitty
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Look, here's all you need to know. Some dumb kid made an untagged post, that post was reblogged by her followers because hey relatable, spread around to other people, who started @mentioning him, and then now we have a wave of harassment, which clickbait writers started to write about because hey, clicks, our bread-and-butter-and-rice, and that's how we have this mess.

This isn't even like "tag your hate" or whatever, the kid legit did not tag the thing.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Our ritual scapegoating him isn't about this.

It's our perceived perception that he's a crybaby who cried to staff-mommy when people started to edit his posts for fun. And hey, sometimes people do things because they're pushed to by outside forces, like celebrities or whatever.

    First uneditable reblogs, then replies.
  • man I know the "leave a post untagged so it won't get notes then some fucking idiot reblogs it and everything goes to shit" thing well

that's why whenever I get a new follower I check their blog quick to see if they would be the sort of person to do that and then I block them if they are
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i don't even care how it started tbh

the consequences were a malicious rumour that drove someone off the site

that happened, you can't just carry on cracking jokes about him and trolling him like it never happened, that's shitty
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
and like i can accept that the staff overreacted and people are pissed off

but Green wasn't even the first person to get annoyed at the post editing thing

i distinctly remember Andrew Hussie complaining about it

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Like I said, I can't troll someone if they're not there. The fish won't bite if they jumped streams and decided to go holiday in the ocean. It's almost ritual now, blaming someone who isn't around anymore for your problems.

Like yeah, it did happen, but I still don't like the guy or his work, am I allowed to say so in a place he won't see, like here?
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    you're allowed, i just don't like it
  • kill living beings
yeah go ahead just don't start rumors you know are false jesus christ tumblr
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
We can't even get people to understand that maybe everything is made of chemicals, and thus maybe chemicals are harmful depending on the type and the quantity, why's this somehow special?
  • kill living beings
what the fuck does that have to do with anything? don't slander people. this is obvious

    It's a thing we know isn't true.

Another example: Well, we can't get meatspace people to slander other people for money and maybe fame either.
