  • We can do anything if we do it together.
I'm thankful that I never followed this person to begin with, because I think this would be enough to make me wash my hands of them.
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
To be clear, it's not his opinion that makes me upset at him, it's the "I'm not a nice person" edgelordery.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Yeah, I'm going to have to avoid if my messages were even answered for a while.

im feeling vindicated, i could tell they was bad apples
  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...
I find this a little weird, and I'm kind of mixed on it.

On one hand, that sort of stance is noxious as all get out (never mind the "not a nice person" comment which is a subject unto itself), and it's a legitimate prompt for discourse on the other platform. On the other hand, these comments are, well, exactly the sort of "Heaper asks" that Odra got criticized for way back (only bringing that up as a parallel; to elaborate would be beating a dead horse), insofar as we are all Heapers and all of the names present can be traced back to this very site. We're not random people, and it's playing out more or less like the early beginnings, except taking on his personal blog is justified because it's gross. Which, well, I can see and even agree with somewhat, since he chooses to respond to these asks on his personal blog with her personal friends. Doesn't make me any less bothered by this in some capacity.

    Crystal has a point.

both Myr and JHM were already following them though (and in Myr's case, at least, for some time)

i guess that doesn't change how it looks from their perspective

e: people who know this person better are using they pronouns, so
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I got a bit of a weird vibe but I liked most of their posts so I kind of just ignored that until this happened and now I'm torn between being mad at this person for being how they are being and annoyed at myself for not being better at listening to that little voice in my head telling me these things.

On the other hand, being forgiving and non-judgemental is kind of a key tenet of my personality, even when people raise asshole flags early on.

I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
honestly all I remember about this person is that we had a weird feud with them/their followers a while back
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i am not a great judge of character, i've admitted this before
  • i used to ignore my little voice but then i noticed that they're almost never wrong so

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    ^^^ Different person.

    That was another person, IIRC.

Yeah, Nostalgebraist, who is weird but generally not... like that.

Also a LessWrong defector/opponent, though. Which explains some things.
  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...
Like okay, the more I think on it, even on a practical level this bothers me. It'd be akin to responding to this (convenient, that), if we were familiars faces, e.g. SJW Guardians from the website whitiessuck.net or whatever, except on an even worse platform.

Also the fact that some folks are implicitly telling that due to kill himself bothers me as well; but that's an entirely different subject.

To me, unless you're consistently chatting it doesn't make much of a functional difference. Otherwise you're just another follower, as I understand him.

I got a bit of a weird vibe but I liked most of their posts so I kind of just ignored that until this happened and now I'm torn between being mad at this person for being how they are being and annoyed at myself for not being better at listening to that little voice in my head telling me these things.

I was bothered by a number of his behaviors, even if yes this is the first one to really make me want to not bother with him. Forgive me if I don't factor this in, though.

Also I rescind my friends comments since that was nost, not that I don't find it to effectively be similar.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I am mostly OK with Nost, actually. He's weird, but not a bad person and occasionally pretty interesting and funny.

This person has really sent me up a wall, though. And I knew of them from when they were just on Blogspot, so they've at least been on my radar for a while if not in my personal sphere.

I'd agree, but then he wrote the worst post a human being has ever written ever.

I am not aware of which post and I am not sure that I want to be.

I wasn't seeing Crystal's point before, but now I am.

Let's not turn this into a lynch mob, people.

we did specifically say we weren't going to talk about Nost behind his back
  • My dreams exceed my real life
I wasn't going to link it, or say what it was, because we said we would stop doing that.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
That's pretty fucking stupid. Who would report someone for that?
  • That's pretty fucking stupid. Who would report someone for that?

John Green, with tears rolling down his face
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
John Green is fucked no matter how he responds to Tumblr.

I already knew that, and don't like to be reminded of that.
  • it doesnt really have anything to do with john green

it's just that apparently tumblr has decided that having fun is illegal
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
If it was someone else who Tumblr hasn't accused of the worst possible things and just expect him to take it, I wouldn't be so upset at this.
  • just like

pretend that i never linked that i guess
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
    I'm sorry.

The John Green shit's kinda scarred me. >_>

    it finally happened

Laverne Cox, who Tumblr absolutely idolized until now, said something "problematic" and now must be randomly insulted

    same

i guess they think she's apologizing for feminism?  but she's not really
  • well you see, Emma Watson is actually Heterosexual Satan, and trying to do blatant/overeager damage control for how some people see feminism is Also Satan, so if you combine them it's Double Satan

Your guess is as good as mine.

I don't like to be that kind of person but it really does strike me as people looking for something to be offended about.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
I'd like to live in a world where you can disagree with someone and it doesn't have to be a Huge Deal unless it's worth it being a Huge Deal.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    She really clearly isn't.

Like, the fuck is wrong with these people. You are allowed to love men and hate patriarchy. Treating everyone like real human beings is the whole point of feminism, even radical feminism. Seriously, just... no.
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
they don't love men and think it's some lesbian-erasure plot?  whatever.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
no i think it's the thing naney said

but the reactions seem disproportionate at best
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
if it's the thing naney said then why are there two mentions of heterosexuality as an insult and one about trans lesbians being offended

it's because the necessity of damage control means that there is a need for it, which they dont want to accept

inevitably (and unfairly, i think, in this case, it's just a hashtag and a statement of personal opinion) a statement like that is going to be associated with heterosexual, non-intersectional forms of feminism which are perceived as shallow and vapid

the 'trans lesbians' comment is presumably in response to the earlier hashtag which says '#i bet all the ppl commenting are twerfs'

because the two women involved are heterosexual, so it proves that heterosexual women just don't understand feminism/aren't really feminists
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    But isn't Laverne Cox transgendered?

I mean she's still heterosexual, but.
  • so she's a heterosexual woman

    ^^ she is

to be clear, i think the responses are dumb, i'm just saying i think it's about the thing naney said
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Certain feminists on tumblr continue to live up to the stereotype that feminists are dykes who hate men. Have we learned anything today? I don't think so!
