I'm kinda dissatisfied with that video, because it feels less like an overview of Koyaanisqatsi for people who don't know about it and more like an essay on its influence.
On the other hand, it's not that hard to describe Koyaanisqatsi, particularly if you have the visuals and soundtrack. The only thing I think he misses is downplaying how weird and ominous some of the nature imagery is in its own right, but I think that's more a feature of the sequels?
I kinda don't like this episode. I wasn't expecting him to like "Laffy Taffy" (even if it is a perfectly harmless fun song) but making fun of Shawty Lo so soon after his death...ehh.
Anyway this song is really pleasant and I enjoy it but it's not pleasant enough or easy enough for me to vibe with to like, replay it a lot, but it does make me smile.

The part around 7:30 where he breaks the Handy Boy while unboxing it is actually quite funny to me, because we get to see James's real reaction to that happening instead of the Nerd's in-character reaction.
I got serious mixed signals about that show, but it seems most people at least liked it at the beginning and then it got contentious? Still, the manga definitely sounds intriguing, and I'm actually more interested in watching it knowing the big twist and, after this video, seeing how the scenario is used to criticise Japan's deeply fucked up criminal justice system.
An enjoyable first half with a polarizing and, personally, mixed second half pretty well sums up my thoughts on it. I also actually think just on a directing level the tweeeeeest was pretty well executed, even if I'm not a fan of, like... 75% of what followed of their character afterwards? Just in terms of the character themselves mind, what surrounds them is certainly more interesting.
Yeah, I heard more than once that the character in question felt a bit evil-for-evil's-sake at points and I don't care for that at all, particularly given my childhood fascination with the pathology of serial killers and what has stuck with me about criminal psychology from that time...
Okay, something I wanted to mention about HBomb's last video.
Spoiler:
At the end of 45 minutes of taking apart right-wing crackpots criticizing Bill Nye's episode on gender identity, he brings up the fact that, as a straight cis white dude, he's basically talking about the episode at hand from an outsider's perspective, and gets trans YouTuber Zinnia Jones to do a short response about the video. And when she's a lot more positive about the episode than he was in his first video on it, he basically goes 'you know what, I have a lot to learn too'. I know, HBomb's done some questionable and outright terrible stuff, but this was, quite possibly, the best possible way to end that.

I dunno. I agree it was a fine way to end the video, but... I only very recently found out about the stuff people have beef with him over—it's apparently been in the air for half a year and is basically a meme on Kooky Leftist Reddit—and from what I gather, it's a lot less simple than certain people have made it out to be?
I really don't want to get into whether or not HBomb is or isn't a bad person, especially not on here, especially not tonight. I just put that as a disclaimer because it was a point of discussion earlier in the night with some people who are also members on here.
Eh, I sincerely don't think you've missed much that we st least haven't already discussed.
At any rate, I wish I could find more entertainment-focused/edutainmenty Internet personalities and straightforward critics to listen to that're just, like, peacefully to my liking enough. Specifically video focused.
Idk I just want comfy and critical, sometimes, if that makes sense.

Also, Shawty Lo apparently hated the song himself, so...
New Tech Tales, y'all.
Well this suddenly makes ERASED a lot more intriguing.
