But yeah. I just love a lot of this great stuff. It's just too bad they crappified the official Winged Dragon of Ra, otherwise, that'd be a really cool combo to do work with.
My only problem is that it gets nothing for being summoned, and it can't be special summoned. Why the hyper nerfing? I mean, jeez, no card was nerfed that beyond horribly from the Anime... even the bad Pot of Greed card, the one that lets you draw 2 cards while removing everything else... was still better.
I know a guy who runs both Egyptian Gods. I just hope Slifer doesn't suck as much as Ra. Seriously, Ra is BAD. Not even good for freakin' Synchoing either. :|
Balance is not as much of a problem as it used to be.
Still something of one, though.
And don't be a metagamer. The only metagamey thing I do is use Scrap-iron Scarecrow in my decks, and that's only because it's a trap card and who cares about those when it comes to thematic unity.
I suspect this will be either remedied at some point by way of an errata, or a new card will be issued that is "Gravity Bind: Xyz Edition", until then, keeping a few Xyzes handy is one of the most hilarious ways to make an opponent's strategy backfire. especially if they're running a stall deck.
Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
It would be interesting to see the main hero of a Yu-Gi-Oh! series use them. But it seems like they'd give them to a supporting character instead. It's usually the supporting characters that you see with one single theme in their decks, and there's not as much cool dragon-warrior-hero aesthetic in the archetype as there is in most heroes' decks.
Of course, I like the cool dragon aesthetic a lot, don't get me wrong. It just seems to be one of the things that's pigeonholed a bit. Though as a warning, I haven't seen the shows in ages.

Ah, okay, so generally it was less of the dragon aspect and more of the warrior-hero aspect. Got it.

The flavor text on that card made me chuckle just now. I think part of it had to do with the sound of "Neo-Space!"

It is pretty awesome, yes. Especially since it has all the different colors from the other Gem Knights and I like color-coding things for some reason.
So I was browsing through the Yu-Gi-Oh! wiki to see what kinds of decks would appeal to me, and apparently there was a guy in the GX manga that used a gator themed deck.Hmm...! It probably has limited use strategically, but some of its flagship cards look pretty cool. Like these guys:
The first one looks kinda like Krookodile, too, thus getting bonus points by setting off my Pokémon nerd-out.
It's sad how something as simple as "This card cannot be Special Summoned" can make or break a card. Tyrant Neptune is absolutely awesome, but unfortunately with cards like Brionac and Trishula existing in easier-to-summon formats it makes this card sadly outdone.

Sure, why not? I'm now ProfGator on the Duel Network. Creative, I know.
Now to get started building a deck. I'm going to try and use both of the cards I just posted in it. You're probably going to kick my butt, especially since I haven't played in about 7 years, but oh well.
Anyone happen to have any helpful hints before I get started?
I mean, in Magic that would basically be "you may cast The Tyrant Neptune by sacrificing a creature instead of paying its mana cost. If you do, The Tyrant Neptune becomes a copy of that creature".
EDIT: Oh, wait, no it wouldn't. Never mind, misunderstood.
Comments
Is that part of the Alien archetype?
Also
I agree wholeheartedly. Note the "purply thorny".
Does it do anything? I don't recall.
I saw it once though.
Indeed.
And it has a funny name.
dragons are bawss.
Even the ones that aren't really dragons.
I've just been pairing it with rock bombardment.
BOMBARDMENT
BOMBARDMENT
BOMBARDMENT
ah, that's the other card I still have. One of the yellow-back ones from the one promo. The one without an effect and just the flavortext? Yeah.
It's in horrible condition, though.
I love the art.
Last YGO card I ever got.
I had this guy.
woo hoo.
But I had a really solid deck around him.
Slifer, the Executive Producer you say?
I HUNGER.
Even has the "under 2000 nuke" effect.
It's total lack of defense is not a drawback at all.
not at all. >:}
oh
*derps*
random-ass necro.
So I was doing some half-asleep deckbuilding and accidentally made my shit Gem-Knight deck half decent.
Yay?
Main Deck
Side Deck
I'm not quite done with the side deck. Deciding which Gem-Knight fusions to carry more than one copy of.

It's just so....badly balanced, that it's unfun sometimes.
Then again, it's my fault for being a perfectionist/metagamer.

Get it right, Viani. It's Roaring Express Train Rocket Arrow. Gawd.
Also, because why the hell not.
I can think of a use or two for it. As a finishing move it'd be pretty kickass.
So I think that the Gem-Knights might be my new favorite archetype.
Also they'd be something good for a protagonist to use. Just saying.
Jaden used an Elemental Hero deck, much to my chagrin because I hated the Elemental Heroes, just for how forced they were.
I don't know what Yusei used offhand, but I think it was mostly Junk Archetype monsters.
This was one of his trump cards, if memory serves.
That's actually some of the better YGO flavortext. It's supposed to sound like an old cheesy comic book, as I understand.
Personally, I would love to see a protagonist (and hey, why not a girl for once, huh?) use this:
come on. Tell me how awesome that thing is. It's called Gem-Knight Master Daia, for god's sake.
Gatooooor
get a Duel Network account.
Then you can make UNLIMITED DECKS for free, and I can duel you.
Also holy shit, I've never seen The Tyrant Neptune before but that is so amazing it's almost broken.

and then there is this thing.

For 5000/2000 a Xyz that requires 3 Level 10 Monsters.
i'm so out of the loop
Also the wording on Neptune is super-clunky.
Be glad it lacks the cringe-inducing "cannot be summoned by other ways".
EDIT: Oh, wait, no it wouldn't. Never mind, misunderstood.
Konami and Upper Deck have had....disputes. Over wording in the past.
Hence some of the clunkiness on rulestext.
That said, I've seen very vague MTG cards. I prefer clunky and explicit to "here's a bunch of keywords, screw you if you don't know what they mean".
