You'd probably like Friends of Dean Martinez. They're like Calexico with even more post-rock. In fact, Burns & Convertino were members of FODM for one album. Oh, and the new Calexico album kicks all kinds of butt.
Also, the new Jaga Jazzist album, Starfire, is tied with The Stix as my favorite.
Also also, Dave Douglas' Charms of the Night Sky and A Thousand Evenings. A trumpet-accordion-violin-bass jazz quartet.
I've been getting into:
-- Old and off-the-beaten-path punk rock. The Rezillos: Can't Stand the Rezillos, X: Los Angeles, Buzzcocks: Another Music in a Different Kitchen. Blaster the Rocket Man: The Monster Who Ate Jesus, Scaterd Few: Sin Disease. The Jam: everything ever. All good stuff.
-- Surf rock. Dick Dale & the Del-Tones, Man or Astro-Man?, and the Rhino Records Cowabunga box set. Also the surprisingly similar-sounding genre of Peruvian cumbia (aka chicha). Los Destellos, Juaneco y Su Combo, Chicha Libre.
-- Jazz. Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers: Moanin'. The Modern Jazz Quartet: Django and Pyramid. Gato Barbieri: Bolivia and Under Fire.
-- I finished my Joy Electric and Orbital album collections. mewithoutYou and Franz Ferdinand are a lot better than I originally gave them credit for.
man i havent listened to calexico or jaga jazzist in so long, im gonna have to check that out
aside from my usual place in the chill/downtempo/ambient/classical/electronic/post-rock area of things i also went on an underground black metal kick (deafheaven, altar of plagues, panopticon, wolves in the throne room) and a alternative hip hop kick (death grips, run the jewels, deltron 3030, cannibal ox, etc) recently
kinda hard for me to remember everything ive been up to musically... but at least now that im here if i find something great i can just instantly share it with all of you eh
my long term memory is bad really bad
oh yeah aside from the atmospheric black metal i got into a little sludge, too. like, king woman, windhand. i just get in the mood for stuff thats slow, heavy, and loud when it gets late
