Ehnahre, "Rather the Ivy" => "At Last Absent from My Head" (Douve, Kathexis, 2016).
This album is even more surreal than their usual output. The opener is basically an acoustic number in the style of a serialist chamber piece, but with screaming at the end, and while these two are more conventionally metal, it's still... something.
The closest comparison I can make is to Univers Zéro, as filtered through a sludge lens.
Garroted, "That Which Scourged Leng" => "Black Spectre" (In the Court of Nyarlathotep, self-released, 2016).
I really do think I need to be in the right mood for more traditional death metal, even black/death stuff, although the production being a bit flat doesn't help. That said, the songwriting is entertaining and the performances are infectiously enthusiastic.

Maybe because it's just short of eighty-two minutes long.
Is that a kenang? Those are definitely nipple-gongs of some sort.
The opening is quite a study in contrasts. Really living up to its name.

Very twee, but in a fairly interesting way. The lyrics are like a child's fantasy world in exegesis.
I have no idea what is going on here other than that it is extremely weird.
