Oh, there are quite a few. It's just not a particularly cohesive album, which means that there are obvious standouts rather than the whole just being great.
I mistyped that, since apparently I've already hit the point of the night where my brain is starting to go.
I've heard the whole of The Suburbs. Reflektor is the one I thought the lack of focus metastasized, although the fact that you say differently intrigues me.
(I tried editing the last post to fix it after you already responded, but decided to keep the mistake for honesty's sake.)
I've only heard the latter once, and I felt that its worst crime was tonal samey-ness: All the songs on the first disc have one vibe, as do most of those on the second. There was also this lack of real memorable hooks despite all of the clever production ideas; only "Supersymmetry" has really stuck with me.
Reflektor seems to also suffer from the same curse as a lot of modern indie rock bands where they've devolved into a sort of samey sounding electro dance-pop.
Some bands have managed the transition better than others. Arcade Fire is actually largely in the better column, but as you note, the lack of hooks kinda spoil it anyway. I do still quite like the title track, though.
I wish this song was longer and had more of a real ending to it, though at the same time it's the first I've head from PW since falling in love with the Sapphire EP last year, so. Tradeoffs.

But then, disco works best in the maxi-single format, so...
Weirdly enough, I thought Tame Impala pulled off the transition pretty well too, but I can't properly vocalize why that is.
