That really is an exceptional pop song, albeit not of the usual variety.
I want that song playing in the background when I finally get my life together
That's an interesting choice, given how intense yet ambivalent the lyrics are. It's basically all, "So what I really wanted is something that's never going to happen, and things are really fucked up and I have no idea what's going to happen next... and I'm accepting that. I'm ready. Let's go."
The Suburbs is a weird album for me in that it has some great songs and a solid arc but it just... doesn't work the way that their previous albums do, as albums, mainly because the weaker songs are just barely there at all even if they aren't actually *bad* or even incongruous. Like, "The Sprawl II" and "Empty Room" and "The Suburbs" are stunning, but I barely remember "Wasted Hours" or "Deep Blue" except as folksy and gloomy mood pieces respectively. I do owe it another listen but it's just no Neon Bible. The themes are also weaker despite being just as dark, and that's problematic.
