Basically, Lorwyn/Shadowmoor is a plane that has two sides. The day side, which is pretty much when everything about fairy tales happens and Shadowmoor, which is...the night to Lorwyn's day, by which I mean, the bad stuff.
Inane: Yeah, for two sets the plane was Lorwyn an idyllic place based mostly on the nice, fluffy fairy tales of the British Isles. Then the Great Aurora happened and the plane turned into Shadowmoor, a hellhole where (almost) all of the beings from Lorwyn have turned vicious, based more on the Brothers Grimm aspect of fairy tales.
Eventide is the second set in Shadowmoor mini-block; it's still set on Shadowmoor, although at the end I believe balance is achieved between the two sides of the plane.
Gelzo: They're not that nice even on Shadowmoor, since they still exile anyone who's too ugly for them, it's just that everything else is worse. And the faeries are the same on both, that is, douches.
Superglobe, you build your deck and I shall build mine. The avid players shall watch us as we fill our decks with cards we like and see who wins.
I like white, and wanted to build a white deck.
Because I have no idea about anything concerning the MTG metagame besides JaceTMC, and Godsire + Progenitus raping the shit out of every single deck I have ever made.
Apparently the only way to kill Progenitus is by cloning him (without directly targeting him since he would be protected from that) and making the player sacrifice him.
Protection means three things, a creature with protection:
1. Cannot be targeted by things it has protection from. 2. Cannot be damaged by things it has protection from. 3. Cannot be blocked by things it has protection from.
There's also "can't have things it has protection from attached to it", so if you give something protection from artifacts, any equipment on it falls off, but those three are the important ones.
Red is best for burn, but usually a burn deck actually wants to be burning their opponent's creatures, not their opponent, so their own creatures can get through.
That said, there are decks that rely on burning the player, such as the deck that copies Sorin's Vengeance with Chandra, the Firebrand for an instant kill.
Once is usually enough outside ponyDH. It's usually a two-for-one on its own anyway, since you kill one of their dudes with it and then they have to waste a Bolt or another dude to get rid of it.
Blue and Black start with the same letter, so to make the distinction, we use U instead of B to refer to Blue. Because it's better than L and it's pretty much the predominant sound of the word, anyway, if that makes sense.
That just means you can pay either two life or that color. So if you have something that costs 3 and a green phyrexian mana, you can cast it by paying three mana of any color and one green, or you can pay three of any color and then lose two life.
This is helpful because it lets you cast it earlier, and even lets you cast it if you don't have any of that kind of mana at all. (Like if you're playing green, you usually wouldn't have a spell that directly kills your opponent's creatures, but you can cast Dismember.)
It's a mechanic that allows you to use your life to pay for a card's mana cost. So, for example, you wanna play this guy
And you only have three untapped lands because it's turn three. You can tap those three lands, take two life and cast it. Of course, there's no reason to cast it at the beginning of the game unless your opponent or you have a very good artifact and you need one on your side/one more.
Dismember is an Standard mainstay mostly because any deck can play it and it can kill indestructible creatures, provided they don't have more than 5 toughness. And even then, nothing can stop you from casting it again, although paying 8 life for destroying one creature is a ridiculous move.
^Haven! Roof! Now! And bring That Which Was Taken with you.

So I have started building a deck.
It has two cards in it, and they are both this.
FUCKING PROGRESS

well um.
Lockonlockon is helping me build a black/blue deck.
So I may be at an advantage, if by just a bit, Tnoph.
Usually I would advise a new player to start out with one of the Duel Decks, but you seem a bit past that now.

this card's apparent lack of a color confuses me. Is it black? The background's black.

uhhhhhhh
LOGICAL!
I guess it does make sense, though.
This is true.
Hence why I said I guess it does make sense. I was about to suggest they just use "Bl", but then it occured to me that "black" starts with Bl too.
GODDAM WORDS
Ah. That is very helpful.
Thank you, Fsjalhaven.

^I FUCKING LOVE DISMEMBER. The art, the effect, the flavour text and I actually own it.
I just looked this card up on Cockatrice and I can not find it.
also does anyone know any good nonbasic black and/or blue lands?
