nah i said green ramp, just add bunches of mana fixing
no guarantees that it's the best way to do it or the best thing to do with that strategy but it'll do it
That's workable, but there's no theme.
What you described isn't a Nicol Bolas deck; it's a deck that allows you to consistently play Nicol Bolas. There's a difference. A Nicol Bolas deck has to have his colors. And it has to allow you to hurt people even when he's not on the field.
I suppose Jay-Z works as a relic of a forgotten age who's still dangerous in his elder years. Of course, we'd need to figure out a Liliana equivalent, as she also came from the time before the great Negative Time Wedgie. And probably Ugin too.

counterpoint: it's janky, ugly and mean. Nicol Bolas is also janky, ugly and mean. so the flavor works out in a meta sort of way.
Also, I don't see Jay-Z as a plotting man. As far as I'm concerned, as far as he's concerned, he's already got a good chunk of the music industry by the soft bits and Beyonce is his wife. He doesn't need to pull off schemes anymore because he has a cushy mansion and nobody has the clout to take it away from him.
Bolas, on the other hand, is power hungry on a deep level (which is, I suspect, where the red mana comes in), and he therefore continuously plots for more power. If I ever finished that Ravnica game I was considering, he'd probably be part of the final boss sequence because if it's not Phyrexians, it's probably Nicol Bolas.
But I suppose none of the older rappers are a good fit for that. I feel like older artists either become comfortable in their power or flail in desperation as they become unimportant. The hot-headed ambition is found in those who've recently climbed the ranks, like Kanye.
Nicol Bolas is very handsome for an elder dragon from the dawn of time.
He kind of is, let's be honest.
I mean, he's mean, I won't contest that, but I wouldn't say janky and ugly. He's...consummate in his meanness. Going out of his way to make things as terrible as possible while remaining aloof and out of range of any spirited hero trying to stop him.
Entrapment is more of Kothophed's thing, to be honest.
Griselbrand's more of a jerk, but he's more of the "drive his enemies before him" demon than the deal-making type. Not that he can't be, just that he prefers not to.
I guess it depends on what other jerk things Birdman did.
Oh man, the conversation on the previous page reminds me of my monogreen Bolas deck. It was so great. Completely impractical but I loved it.
Now I wanna play it again.
Also, Liliana as Nicki Minaj is brilliant. I like Nicki way too much to completely agree with it, but it's kind of a wonderful image.
Nicki Minaj is actually a good example of black != evil. She's ambitious, proud, and doesn't care about stepping on people's toes to get where she wants to be, but she's also artistic and has noticeable care for her fans. It's a side of black that we usually don't see in game because, well, zombies and demons are what sells.
I'd buy Nicki Minaj as Liliana. Hell, I think Minaj would buy Nicki Minaj as Liliana. She'd probably change all of the purpleness to pinkness, but that's a minor change.
Oh, definitely, but Liliana made ghouls eat Thalia's soldiers alive while they were paralyzed to coerce her. Minaj wouldn't do that. Heck, she wouldn't have to, she could've just use pure force of personality.
I kind of liked how Sarkhan's mana development mirrored his development as a character, and that he started out as a two-color character and only became one-color when he got his life together.
