You needed ideas. Ideas in EDH are best centered around a commander. That link provides random commanders, which I hoped would jumpstart your creativiy.
Animar was specially designed for EDH, so yeah, stick with him.
Tribal's not exactly easy to do in EDH, but it's hardly untenable. It's easier with more common tribes, like Goblins (which are frightening with Grenzo or Krenko), but I built one based around Seshiro the Snake and won battles with it against decks that aren't ridiculous

And yeah, there are two ways to go with Animar: lots of smaller creatures and a huge Animar, or lots of larger creatures and a slightly less huge Animar.
If a player casts a split card without using fuse, that player chooses which half of that split card he or she is casting before putting it onto the stack. Only that half is evaluated to see if it can be cast. Only that half is considered to be put onto the stack.
The only other thing you need to remember is that anything checking for converted mana cost checks both halves. So, the CMC for Fire // Ice would be 4
Graft might work in your favor. Possibly. Simic was never my thing, so my knowledge on that is limited.
Evoke is definitely a good option. Add more of those. Ideally, try to see if you can replace some of your instants/sorceries with evoke creatures. When you have a commander that beefs up creatures, it's best to capitalize on that as much as possible.
And in general, lean more towards big cost, big effect cards for your spells. EDH games almost uniformly long, and that means that a slow start is usually more preferable to dead draws on turn 20. Electrickery's probably not going to be useful against anything but a token deck, and any good token deck would have enough buffs to protect them from that sort of thing. Giant Growth and Lightning Bolt are good staples for Standard, but not much use in a format where creatures tend towards being 6/6 and up.
Polymorphist's Jest is a good card in general, a great card in EDH (Just what you need to get rid of that Kozilek) and an excellent card when you're using +1/+1 counters
also also a lot of Commander stuff seems to assume you're playing with at least 3 people, can you play it with just 2? I don't actually know if Lackey supports games with more than two people.
Each clashing player reveals the top card of his or her library, then puts that card on the top or bottom. A player wins if his or her card had a higher converted mana cost.
Commander's an inherently multiplayer format, but it allows two-player gameplay.
Also, I figured out how to paste decks directly into Cockatrice/
also we're not using Cockatrice. It's a pain in the ass to update and the interface difference between it and Lackey always fucks with me. You can paste into Lackey too.
Unrelated, I often see people on like Gatherer comments going on and on about how "noobs" think that losing life to gain card advantage or some other benefit is bad, but I don't think I've ever met anyone, in any game, who thinks that way.
I think they're talking about people who have never played any sort of card game ever period, as it's not a super intuitive concept for some people i think
it seems like everyone I know who plays Magic has a favorite color. I don't think it's that unusual to maybe have two favorite colors, but I think I have four. Red, Blue, Black, and Green. All roughly the same.
Even just saying I liked all five equally would be better, but nothing about White really appeals to me on any level.
