"What? Explain please.
Man, is there anything that won't ruin Magic forever."
Friday had some insight; apparently because of the extra thickness of the cards, they aren't considered "real cards" by some in the community.
Also, to pothole, you highlight what you want to link and hit the little chain icon in the upper right hand corner of the post box, then put in the URL (must include the http:// bit, but only once)
To be fair, if you're playing in the competitive scene and spending money on the game, you kinda want to care about the meta game in order to not be wasting your money for nothing.
With that said, most of the arguments made for the whole "Fuck Wizards, they're breaking the meta game" thing seem to be, "I don't want a balanced game, I want a game that allows me to play the decks I want without any hinderance, bawwwwww"
Nah, it isn't. Magic's only complicated if you want it to be complicated, really. but you can play a white weenie deck (A deck that is only about putting creatures in the field and attacking) just as easily as you can play a control (A deck based around controlling the field and putting your opponent in a lockdown, so to speak) deck,
Basically, the easiest way of understanding the game is "Tap shit, get shit on the field, end turn, rinse, repeat"
Of course, that's a rather simplistic way of seeing the game and one that doesn't take into account such things as instants, for starters
@Worst card ever discussion: That can be pretty tricky, since there's often the chance that someone has dreamt up some casual format where a bad card can be useful. It's why I don't throw out my jank like some players.
And sometimes you ought to keep an eye on bad cards. People have found ways of breaking cards that were once thought to be terrible. A lot of new players didn't pay much attention to Black Lotus.

Hence why it's banned from all formats, except legacy where it's expected that people will get turn 1 wins unless their opponent has a Force of Will in their opening hand.
So, Innistrad. This is the first block I've liked since Shadowmoor. It's clear why. While Lorwyn/Shadowmoor was inspired by fairy tales, Shards of Alara had the flavor of a comic book multiverse processed through D&D, Zendikar was a sort of Dark Ages D&D, and Mirrodin was about cyborgs and evil oil. Now we have another block inspired by fantastic literature, and I'm happy.
I liked the flavour of Alara, personally, it was an interesting intellectual exercise.
I've come round to both of the previous two blocks, too. Well, I hate how overpowered the cards in Zendikar are, but the flavour is actually quite interesting.
I think I like every block made since Ravnica with the exception of Lorwyn, actually.
Of course, my dislike for Lorwyn is mostly mechanical based, as I don't really like tribal decks, except for my beloved zombie deck. And that's more because I really like the idea of raising an army of the dead.

To be fair, at the beginning of the game's history and conception, things like a double turn and drawing three cards were seen as minor benefits. Wizards seems to have realized how powerful these effects were and starting to redesign the cards that gave these benefits with a cost that actually makes sense.
I don't think Kamigawa sucked that badly. It had good cards and it was a great set. It's just that the whole "Legendary as fuck" approach made deckbuilding in standard much more EDH-like.

Magic The Gathering:
serious motherfucking business
I don't get it, unfortunately.
I've never been able to get into Magic, it's too damn complicated.
The basic rules aren't that complicated, and my games usually involve Haven, who knows what he's doing.

That looks like a very solid card.

I'm especially liking the humans.

I really like Lorwyn, it's so...quaint.
I liked the Moonfolk, but almost all of them suck.
And there are a buncha guys at school who'd be willing to teach me properly. ^w^
