As great as Dirk is, I think I like the other kids even more, even if they haven't had their awesome moments yet.
Also, has anyone else heard of the Kickstarter drive for Order of the Stick? Seeing how insanely successful it's been, it makes me wish Hussie and his legion of artists and musicians would do something like that--exclusive side-stories and stuff for people who fund it, to keep the merchandise in stock and the updates rolling.
Odd confession: I stopped following Homestuck a while after the Beta kids were introduced.
I don't find them interesting.
I have to admit, it's getting harder and harder for me to keep checking the site these days.
It's not so much that the characters are boring (though Jade and Roxy come off as kind of stale for me). It's because I think Hussie's writing is getting less and less interesting.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I think Jake English suffers from a lack of focus and development (unless his focus is done for now), don't really like Dirk Strider that much, but somehow Jane Crocker and Roxy Lalonde appeal to me, even though neither of them seem very well-developed.
Roxy is weird, but entertaining. I didn't like Dirk at first, but now he seems kind of awesome. I guess I didn't really accept him as being the same person as Bro until seeing him fight.
Jane and Jake don't seem that interesting to me at the moment, but that is sort of how I felt about Feferi, and for a long time Jade as well.
There's a long history of people reading the comic to become uninterested in whatever new characters are introduced, as there hadn't yet been time for them to develop and for them to grow on people.
Hell, it started with the original four kids. As soon as people got used to the idea of Homestuck, and it switched to the trolls, a bunch of people complained, and I think many of those people were again upset when the focus switched away from the trolls.
The only reason that I've ever gotten annoyed with new characters (including the trolls during my readthrough) was because they always showed up right when the other characters were on the edge of doing something really important.
@Update: Aw, Jane. :( On the other hand, considering they're almost certainly related, it's probably for the best that they get that out of the way first. Not that I think this is really the end of these shenanigans.
Well, they're also the genetic parents of John and Jade. Well, I guess, not these versions, even though I think they're supposed to be genetically identical to Hass and Nanna?
Okay, so the first universe had Bro, Mom, Nanna, and Grandpa as genetic progenitors of themselves, and the kids came from . Presumably in this universe, John, Dave, Rose, and Jade have the opposite role of self-clones... So... it shouldn't matter in terms of genes whether you came from yourself or from your parents, but you always reproduce with your sibling? Unless maybe in this version of things, Roxy and Jane come from Rose and John, and John and Dirk are from Jade and Dave or something? Is there a combination here that doesn't make things genetically incestuous for someone?
Maybe I'm overcomplicating things here. Or just being stupid...

I think Jake needs more attention though.

I haven't lost interest. The site is my home page, actually.
I mean, lots of writers do that, but Hussie is really shameless about doing it.
Also, considerate Brobot?
