^ There's like...at least two others. One was done where one party had no say in the matter as his body was missing from his head (no, I'm not talking about Jake/Dirk). The other seemed like it was mutual, though one participant was wounded...and it was clearly a joke kiss anyway.

Honestly, it strikes me that Hussie simply doesn't like to spend a lot of time on romance. Even the hetero relationships don't get a lot of focus or are very weird by human standards. In one paring, one of the participants was a robot, and it was half love, half hate kiss anyhow. The other one was a straight up hate snog...

Other relationships just don't get a lot of screen time, they're hinted at, or briefly shown, the a participant dies or the thing just falls apart.

Although I believe Hussie understand romance is an important part of any story, I think he at least half-ways uses it to troll his audience.

Really, if anything, I felt that Homestuck is almost pro-homosexuality. Though, it might be more accurate to say that it's not really a concern.

The Trolls being the most obvious example of this with gender being a condition of attractiveness not really being a concept.

Even with the humans, I think only John so far has been explicitly stated as being heterosexual. Dirk has explicitly been stated as being homosexual. Jake is clearly bi-sexual. It hasn't been said for Rose, but she's definitely not heterosexual.

The other four haven't been touched on in great detail, but it feels like Hussie is letting the story drive the relationships more than any preconceived notion of what sexuality should be.

It's kinda refreshing, if anything. Though, I guess it would be nice if at least one relationship could last and not just serve as a vehicle for more sloppy-make-out shenanigans.

Eh, to be honest, this facet of Troll culture wasn't really expressed until the latter half of Act 5 Part 2. Sure, Kanaya was shown to have lesbian tendencies with the whole Tavros/Vriska hatekiss reaction, but most expressed interest between the trolls is hetero until after Hivebent

Rose's sexuality hasn't seemed to develop until that time on the meteor. She was friends with Kanaya before that, but I don't know if there was any sincere flirting going on from her. I'm guessing puberty happened there? I wonder if the same is true for any of the other kids. John seemed to be having a hormone-fueled rage on his birthday. which happened to be fixated on Davesprite. I wouldn't be that surprised if it turned out he was into dudes.

Last I remember, Dirk denied being labeled as homosexual, but I don't think there was much else he had to say about it. I think it may have had something to do with the massive influence of troll culture on Earth and the eradication of humans. My impression is that he's most accurately described as homosexual from our cultural perspective.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure I remember something about Kanaya being a lesbian canonically. Of course she's interested in males for other quadrants, but never for matespritship, which is the only quadrant that's relevant to human notions of sexuality.

I don't know if it was mentioned in canon, but on the old formspring someone asked "Is Kanaya a Lesbian?" and Hussie's response was "I think this was pretty obvious a long time ago. But then, homosexuality in a society where bisexuality is the norm is kind of a different thing. Rather than being a swapped preference, it is a more exacting preference. Somewhat like a fetish for a particular gender."

As for Dirk, I got the impression that he had troll-style ideas of romance; in the pesterlog he had with Roxy about it he dismissed the idea of being gay as "antediluvian". Or basically:

John, Rose, Dave, and Jade are pretty young, so it's not really surprising the ship/meteor is when they sort a lot of this out.

That being said, John seemed to show a bit more of an interest in the lady folk since the beginning of Homestuck. He certainly has a crush on Liv Tyler and humors pairing with Rose and going on a date with Vriska as opposed to quickly shooting down a romantic relationship with Karkat, even if it was based on hate.

I could buy that John is still sorting out his own feelings a bit, but I don't think the stories really pointing that direction. I think his lashing out against Davesprite was mostly out of having very little going on on that ship and Davesprite and Jade having a relationship was John's little "Well, at least SOME people are making the most of this..." and then it's gone, it basically messed up his birthday which he really wasn't enjoying at that point anyhow, and Davesprite basically foregoes putting up with an awkward situation in favor of a joke at John's expense.

There just seems to be a lot pointing to John being heterosexual and lots of reasons why he would be made at Davesprite beyond him dealing with his new-found feelings for dudes.

I'd imagine I'd feel differently if I had any deep roots in Tumbland, but Hussie's unending assault against it amuses me to no end.

Terezi is probably in a uniquely qualified position to carry on a potentially volitial relationship with her Seer of Mind abilities. She should at least be able to determine what she needs to do to keep things from turning into a giant cluster fuck.
