I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
MLP:FIM and Sonic seem about tied for having the fandoms with the worst reputations...
At the very least, they're big enough for the bad apples not to outweigh everything else...
Oddly, the My Little Pony fandom is divided in two: the fans of the pre-G4 incarnations, who are mostly women who grew up with the franchise, and the G4 fans, who are overwhelmingly teenage and twenty-something men. They don't interact much.
anyone who says that any one fandom has the "worst fans" has self-inflicted tunnel vision
people like to think that a fandom is wholly monolithic, but the thing is, that the bad actions of one, or even a couple dozen does not really represent a group that numbers in the tens or hundreds of thousands
any self-entitled nerd from whatever fandom has the capability to do and say shit that's dumb, crazy, even near felonious (Dennis Falk, anybody?) - it's what kind of person they are in the first place, not whatever fandom they're in
The Sonic and FiM fandoms seem to have the "most amount" of bad fans 'cause the internet shone the largest limelights on them
add in people's differing opinions on what makes a "bad fan", people cherry-picking and showcasing bad fans to "prove" how those fans are the majority, along with people just making shit up to make the fandom worse than it really is, and there you go, your "worst fandom ever"
I realize that while everything has bad fans, I don't go to places where I hear stories about bad fans of say, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. So to me, MLP sticks out in my head as "thing with the worst fans."
It's completely irrational.
Understandable, but you'd at least think Sonic would be visible enough across the whole internet to beat it out there.
In any case, the douchebags in this one are outweighed in my mind by the sheer fantastically prolific creativity, even when the works are derivative -- whether it's weird as fuck
stupidly epic
weird as fuck
aggressively adorable
weird as fuck
weird as fuck
or just incredibly well-done.
To say nothing of the fanfiction; some of it is on par with professional fiction, and a lot more is silly enough that you don't particularly care.
I don't think I've ever loved a fandom this much. There's a reason I keep comparing it to Touhou's.
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
No see Sonic is the thing that many kids are allowed to like. It's a hedgehog and his animal friends and it's not like them Power Rangers where they get their powers from dinosaurs or fairies or wizards and what would the Good Lord think of those?
It's the thing that fills Deviantart because that's the only thing they're allowed.
That's still too much. Any depiction of Satan at all, outside The Bible, could potentially turn our children into rap-listening, baggy-pants-wearing Satan worshippers.
Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
Only the Official King James Version of the Bible is untainted by Satanic influence. Don't believe everyone who says it's full of translation errors. They've been corrupted into believing this by Satan.
He's a cross between Tinkerbell, Swedish Chef, and AoStH Robotnik, his tribe is shamelessly manipulative, and he swears in a foreign language when they're stupid. It was a pretty glorious episode.
With a couple installments as exceptions, Touhou isn't that difficult once you learn how to stop being overwhelmed by the spectacle and learn to process it -- at least on Normal.

The whole thing is a great case of taking an idea that should have been stupid (promoting yet another new toy line in the show, and a cutesy-wootsy one at that?) and reworking it into something really funny. Mainly by making all of them just big enough asses that they don't really feel like advertisements.
