I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Why were you looking there?
Also, I had heard of Joliet before, but I knew it only as the city of license for WGBO-DT (the area's Univision station and a former Milton Grant-owned station).
I'm following I-80 across the country "backwards" (MUTCD says to go west to east; I'm going east to west) and looking for interesting stuff. Water towers, old factories, stuff like that.
Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
Just out of curiosity, what is it about water towers in particular that piques your interest?
I've always liked them, partly out of a sense of awe (my mom was terrified of them for years, and I think it rubbed off on me), partly because some of them are honestly kind of cool-looking.
Huh. I've known for a while that "E-ZPass" is a registered trademark, but I've wondered whose trademark it is, since they use a Brand X version of the logo in the MUTCD. Turns out it's owned by the Port Authority of NY and NJ.

Hee hee, those cars are cool
It's a little lame to use a modern car for the ECTO-1, but I guess 1959 Cadillac ambulances are hard to come by these days. :P

Some pictures, mostly from Worthington, Ohio, from Saturday, 8th June:

It's hard to tell exactly because the real FHWA Series is so much heavier, but it's fairly close, at least.

Also, I didn't get a picture, but the crosswalk has a smaller but similar sign facing it that says "CROSS WITH CAUTION", to let you know when the "YIELD TO PEDS" sign is flashing.
Both crosswalks also have the little blaze orange safety flags for you to pick up before you cross the street.

I have a BUNCH of photos from today but many are just pretty tree-filled scenes from rural highways. Instead of linking to each one, would it be ok with you guys if I made a Flickr set and just linked that here?

I see Kroger is applying their 2012 look to King Soopers now, too. I wonder if they're giving it to all their chains.
One thing that always stuck out to me about the 2012 decor: they usually end up removing any drop ceilings when remodeling. I kinda like that; it's a little cheaper-feeling, but generally makes the space feel a bit more open and less stuffy.
The names of those hair products at Target made me smile.
I find it interesting how Target, year after year, always seems to maintain the same sort of atmosphere and aesthetic, even if they change their graphics slightly each season. It's very corporate-feeling but overtly so, and makes no attempt to hide it. Also, that "The One SPOT" sign is cool.

The 2012 Kroger livery looks a lot like Safeway's "ingredients for life" refit.
For whatever reason (and I'm sure at least part of this is the similarity in logos), Target's branding reminds me of CBS about 30 years ago or so (late 1970s/early 1980s).

I've never been to Safeway. #yntkt
Also, it's neat that both ends of US 60 are clearly marked.

As I mentioned in the other thread, Anonus took far more photos this weekend than I did, since we were mostly visiting places I was somewhat familiar with. So this post is gonna be pretty light, but I'm sure Anonus has more on the way. ^_^
A little background here: one of the exhibits at COSI is called Progress. You get to talk through a little recreation of some small town streets in the year 1898, then you proceed through a short hallway into what's meant to be the same location several decades later in 1962. I snapped some photos of things in the 1962 section that caught my eye:
