Considering that I'm on a private college campus, I don't really need to care about it.

I mean, it's certainly a dick thing for the Republicans to do, especially since their 'well if it can't be done my way, then it's not getting done' attitude has already caused the sequester mess before this. But it's not going to hit anyone around here.

It might affect me indirectly, since one of our big customers is part of the Navy and they're doing a big upgrade over the next week or so, but probably not otherwise.

Even public colleges are run by state gov'ts, not the federal, so I won't feel the effects immediately either. As long as the shutdown doesn't take long enough that the math department loses the NSF grant, that is.
